Species Close-up: Bzzit Khaht

A Bzzit Khaht. From Memory Alpha.

The Bzzit Khaht are an amphibious Federation member species from the planet Yalena. They evolved to live symbiotically with massive rafts of coral on the surface of their pelagic world. First contact with Elasi pirates forced technological innovation for the Bzzit Khaht, lest they be subjugated and enslaved, and a subsequent alliance with the Federation soon followed.

Bzzit Khaht biology provides for only one biological sex, though reproduction occurs after two individuals have mated and exchanged genetic material; either parents may carry the developing offspring, which is birthed live. Their evolutionary cladogram describes their evolution from likewise amphibious apex predators, though their current special senses – vision, taste, and hearing – are not as developed as in most humanoids. However, their baroreceptors and thermoceptors – pressure and temperature sensors, respectively – are much more highly adapted, and are likely direct holdovers from their evolution as water-dwellers on a volcanic world.

Species Close-up: Pythron

Conzaneyas Thrax - saviour, father and supreme ruler of the Pythron Nation.

The Pythron are a starfaring, humanoid race from the Pythro star system. While the species has existed for thousands of years, modern Pythron civilization has existed for only about one thousand years, since they developed agricultural practices. The Pythrons quickly achieved space flight and were approached by several extant stellar powers for an alliance of mutual benefit, due in no small part to the mineral richness of their homeworld.

Species Close-up: Aurelian

The Aurelian people are a peaceful species that evolved over time from large migratory birds. They have never experience war on their planet and while their first off world contact was not pleasant they were quickly able to correct this problem. They contacted the Vulcans who with the aid of Starfleet put a stop to any possible exploitation that the Orions had been planning. This quick intervention by Federation forces encouraged the Aurelian people to establish positive relations that resulted in their joining the Federation.

While they seldom wear any form of clothing they do use a system of belts and harnesses to hold and carry any equipment they may need. While few of them have ever joined Starfleet, those that have went into the medical, engineering or science fields. They have incredible memories and can remember a lot of data. This is a result of their long history of learning the oral records and history of their tribe and species.

Species Closeups: Boslic

Boslic FemaleBoslics are a space-faring species similar in many ways to the Ferengi. Curiously, they have been shown with two very different facial structures during several appearances in Star Trek episodes. They tend to live in large family groups aboard freighters and are accomplished traders and bargainers.

Some effort has been made to expand on the limited canon information on this species using the wiki article: Boslic, but it needs your help!

New species discovered: Xith

The USS Aurora has discovered reports of a previously unidentified species known as the “Xith”. Reports of the species come from deep within Romulan space previously unexplored, but now available via a semi-stable wormhole discovered by the Aurora’s crew.

The Xith are a technologically advanced species of insect-humanoid creatures apparently known for their compulsive resource mining and hoarding. According to reports, the Xith mindfully and willingly destroyed their homeworld and the other planets in their solar system to mine the resources. Since then they have been living among the dead chunks of rock that was once their homeworld, known as the “Veil of Rocks”. Xith behavior resemble a colony of ants — venturing out to scavenge whatever they can find and bring it back to the colony for consumption.

A trip to Raskor

This week, we will be taking a look at the planet Raskor. It is a member of the Federation and is located approximately 4 and 1/3 hours from StarBase 118 at warp factor 5. This species and the planet along with the last one highlighted in the news (New Scotland) are original creations and concepts designed to bring the Trinity Sector of space (home to StarBase 118) to life.

The native species of Raskor are avian, and they were based on the concept of talking birds like parrots.

A Trip to New Scotland

A couple years back I sat down and started work on developing the Trinity Sector of space, the sector that houses Starbase 118. As a result of this project, a number of wiki pages were created for each planet. It was my hope that they would help define the nature of the Sector and provide interesting locations for shore leaves and missions. This News Article is about one of those planets: New Scotland.

Approximately 3 hours away at warp 5, this is the closest inhabited planet to Starbase 118, and is a member of the Federation. This planet was settled by humans from the planet Earth, after having been hired by the inhabitants of the planet Raskor to help build planetary defenses. Once their contract was up, most of them settled on the closest class M planet. Since the majority of the workers were from the region of Earth called Scotland they chose to name their new colony, New Scotland. To this day this world has a very strong Scottish presence.

Species Close-up: the Pifili

By: Aokineko, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported LicensePart of 2 of a 2 part series on a non-canon species encountered by the USS Challenger. Part 1: the Aarakocra.

The planet of Kaclla II, visited by the Challenger of the course of a number of years, is home to two distinct species created by the crew, and developed by the Species Development Committee (SDC). The second species we’re covering are the Pifili, a feline species native to this planet. Their habitats were threatened by the Aarakocra, who migrated to the planet 500 years ago, and hostilities were quick to break out between the two people, led by the Pifili.

The planet of Kaclla II, visited by the Challenger of the course of a number of years, is home to two distinct species created by the crew, and developed by the Species Development Committee (SDC). The first species is one of the few intelligent avian species in the Trek universe, called the Aarakocra. Although not native to Kaclla II, they have lived there for over 500 years, after a long migration via “space arks.”
