First Officer In Focus – Diz’mim Ch’Nilmani, USS Constitution-B

You'll Always Be My Number One

Each month we interview a First Officer of the fleet as part of our “First Officer in Focus” column to get to know them better, and learn more about what their positions entail.

This month, we’re interviewing the First Officer of the starship USS Constitution-B Commander Diz’mim Ch’Nilmani, an Andorian Chan.

DeVeau: Tell us a little about the writer behind the character — where in the world do you hail from, what sort of hobbies do you have?  Anything you’d like to share!

Ch’Nilmani: Hello, hello! Thanks for having me! I’m actually Jonathan and most people would know me from my oldest character here at 118, Nugra. I’m from the United States, hiding out in the state of Kentucky. Hobbies, besides simming is writing some of my own works and software development.

You’ve played a number of characters over the years. What made you decide on this character?

The change was more paperwork than anything else. I had no characters at a lower rank to fit within what we needed for a first officer so I decided to create a brand new Lieutenant Commander instead of playing musical chairs with my other characters. Lol

Your character is a member of the Kor keth, or clan,  one known for negotiation.  Why did you decide on this keth specifically and how does it apply to your character?

I want to give Diz’mim more than just the  “violently emotional Andorian” type vibe. So I thought that giving him a Keth that had negotiations would refine him into resolving issues with words instead of the Ushan.

Why do you think Ch’Nilmani will make a good first officer?

Though he really has not held the role a lot, he brings to the table an understanding of what it means to lead and to make the right decisions even if it may bounce against a regulation or two. He cares about people and he wants to see them succeed.

What do you hope to see for your character in the coming year?

Preferably not in the brig. Lol He and Jalana Rajel have had an interesting start to their command partnership.

What are your goals as a first officer for the coming year?

I’m taking the time this year to look at the Constitution’s mentoring and training program for officers with Commodore Rajel to make sure that we are giving our crew the best education on, not only simming,  but setting them up for success if they choose to try and climb the command tiers.

There is a lot of institutional knowledge and it’s important to make sure it’s passed to the up and coming!

Thanks for your time, Commander Ch’Nilmani!
