The Chat Team is responsible for running several Chat-orientated events, notably the Fleetwide OOC Chat, and the annual Trivia Chat. Today we meet with Chat Team Facilitator Commander Serala so we can learn more about this important part of our community!
DeVeau: Thank you for joining us. Can you please start by giving us a short overview on the Chat Team and how it supports our StarBase 118 community?
Serala: What a great question to begin with. Our Chat Team is responsible for pulling together our monthly fleetwide chats which take place on Discord every month. There, we go through the list of our ships and installations to catch up on what everyone has been doing since our last gathering. We have some really interesting discussions, and some great ideas are floated out there as well, and really brings a sense of cohesion to our fleet, rather than just a collection of various ships and stations. The team also takes care of putting together all of our announcements and preparing any questions or topics that would be appropriate for the month. And then, we host the chat, and this is really what it’s all about. Recently, I added two new members to the team, and we’re currently working on a rotation that will allow each of us to take turns hosting the chat.
What is your favorite thing about working on this taskforce?
For me, I love checking in with each ship or station to see what’s been going on. Some of the things others are doing are quite intriguing and give me ideas for what I can bring to my own CO and ship. And I get to interact with people around the fleet that I might not otherwise interact with, and I really love that. As I said, it helps to make it feel like we’re really a fleet instead of just a bunch of individual ships and stations.
Who can join this taskforce?
Anyone can join the task force as long as they have their COs support and an account on Discord, which is where our chat takes place. We are especially on the lookout for anyone who is frequently active in the officer’s club, and can bring some unique topic ideas to the table.
How would a new member join this taskforce?
If anyone is interested, all they have to do is contact me either in Discord or by email, and I will check with their CO. Or vice versa. If the CO approves, then fantastic!
What is the most fun thing about working on this taskforce?
Well, like I said a moment ago, I love meeting the people around the fleet and learning about what’s been going on. I can’t sim with everyone in the fleet, so this helps me to connect to those people that I might otherwise never get a chance to speak to. And I also really love our Annual Trivia Challenge. Fleet Commodore Taybrim facilitates this contest, but I get to assist, and I love to see all the Trek knowledge our members have. Not to mention, I am always impressed by the speed demons we have on the keyboard. All of our fleet members are awesome and anything that helps me feel more connected to them is awesome. And that’s why I do this. To help bring a sense of unity to our fleet and to meet everyone.
