It’s a new year and a new start for the recruitment drive for UFOP: Starbase 118! As we take our first steps into the brave new year, it’s time once again to let you guys know exactly how you can help us to get our name out as far and as wide as possible!
Are you on facebook? If so, did you know that UFOP: SB118 has its own facebook page? If you have your own non-character based page then it would be fantastic if you could drop on in and give us a like: https://www.facebook.com/ufopsb118
There’s something released through social media channels every day, but this month, a concentrated effort on facebook could really help us to take off. You can help us in three ways. Liking our posts is a fantastic way to increase the number of people who view what we write – that includes ship summaries, fleet events and also general articles about Star Trek, Sci Fi and Science. In turn, that could lead to friends of yours (or indeed friends of friends) liking our page, which spreads our sphere of influence ever wider! Even better, you can share what we post, which gives people a direct chance to take a look at the interesting article of the day.
The best possible way to get involved, though, is to post a comment! Your friends will be able to read that you did, but they will then have a chance to add their own views! If we’re talking about a little known piece of trivia from one of the trek films, or asking for your opinion on a recent scientific discovery, why not post up your viewpoint? The more discussion we get, the more the posts stay alive and the more people will see us chatting! That will tempt them to join in and give them a chance to interact with the members of the 118 fleet. We’ve said on countless occasions that you’re our best asset for publicity because you’re a fantastically welcoming bunch so let’s get out there and see how many people we can draft in! After all, once we pass a certain level of popularity on Facebook, each post we make will be seen by that many more people, so this is the kind of work where each mote of effort really contributes to the overall picture! Many hands make light work and every person counts, so see you on Facebook!
Queues of eager cadets banging on access hatchways and docking ports and attempting to hijack transporter consoles to get themselves posted onto our group’s fleet of top quality ships… that’s the dream of the publicity team and we’re definitely attracting some attention from various different corners of the internet and real world as our ongoing campaigns continue to generate interest in the group. However – the golden rule with a publicity campaign is that you can never be enough in the public eye! We’ve recently expanded our regular monthly efforts to include the Star Trek.com and Star Trek Online forums, encouraging trek fans to come and join us by tempting them with mouth watering insights into the plots of our ships – which means that your character’s actions themselves could have a direct impact on hooking in a brand new cadet! Wouldn’t it be great if there was another way for you to help us raise our numbers and, in turn, create the opportunity to launch brand new ships, create promotion opportunities and help us build in popularity? Well… there is!
For this month’s mission possible, the Publicity Team is asking you for a very simple task that should take you no more than 15 minutes to complete. All you need to do is put together a 300 word (min.) article on a subject relating to ANY of the following tasks: Star Trek, Sci-Fi, Science, Roleplaying, Writing. Pick something that you find interesting, such as how to write for your favourite duty post or alien species, a recent scientific development or a cool way you’ve discovered to help describe your character’s surroundings from their own perspective. You name it – as long as it relates to one of those topics, it’s fair game! Once you’re done, just email it to email@example.com and your job is done! As part of our network there are a few other Star Trek and roleplaying blogs that are always looking for short articles to post up, so if we have a bank of them then that helps us to create stronger links with those groups while also getting our name out there to advertise!
If you’d like to join our team of intrepid volunteers then you can also mail the email address above – remember, we need you to keep making the magic happen!
Friends, Romulans, Undiscovered Countrymen! Lend me your ears and approximately two minutes of your time to find out how you can help us spread the word about UFOP: Starbase 118 reliably, quickly, easily and for FREE!
The wizards from the image team have rustled us up a top dollar poster that can be displayed in comic book, sci-fi memorabilia and board game stores and we need you to help us by taking one to a place in your city where you can get it some face time! We cover the costs of mailing to you – all you have to do is walk in, ask nicely if you can take up some of their board or window space and then the magic begins. From that point forward, we effectively have an extra person doing publicity work for us as passers by will have their eyes drawn to the poster and be unable to resist joining!
All you need to do to get your hands on one of these beauties is hit one of the following links – we’ll mail to any English-speaking country!
Thanks for reading – now hit one of those links, and we’ll get one of our promotional posters headed your way!
This month, the Publicity Team is flying high or, more specifically, flyering high! Do you have a local book, comic or tabletop gaming store near you? Well then you can help!
This is a blanket call to all members of the fleet to join in with the publicity team’s special project for the month. We need YOU to head to this link and follow the instructions to receive a FREE Starbase 118 flyer. All you need to do then is ask for permission to show it off in pride of place in one of the types of store mentioned above. All you have to do is ask the store owners politely for permission – they’ll tell you where such things can be placed! Zap us a picture to show us that your town is now doing your publicity work for you – every flyer we put up effectively counts as a rep from Starbase 118 standing in the store in which it has been deployed, spreading the word about the awesome experience that is lying in wait for our prospective members!
If you’re interested in helping us out in any other way, head here to find out how!
Greetings to everyone from the Publicity Team!
We’re pleased to announce that we’ve gained some new members – a huge thanks to Lieutenant (j.g.) Richard Matthews, Ensign James, Lieutenant Commander Hannibal Parker and Lieutenant Commander Eerie for joining our ranks! With their help we’ll be continuing in our ongoing mission to spread the word about UFOP: Starbase 118 and keep bringing in the new recruits!
Now that we’re firing on all cylinders again after our short spell of website downtime, we’re motoring ahead to pick up on the applications that we missed out on during that time! YOU can help in two ways this month, and here’s how!
The first is easy. Do you know anyone who’d enjoy SIMming with us? If you do, ask them! It really is that simple! Talk to them a bit about the group and see if they’d like to join!
The second is to give us some links to your favourite Star Trek blogs! We’re always looking for cool Trek related things to link on facebook and twitter, so if you’re currently following anything that could help us then please contact Captain Diego Herrera (firstname.lastname@example.org) with a URL. And if you don’t, but have a spare 10 minutes to do some searching then that would also be much appreciated!
As usual, don’t forget to like/follow us on facebook and twitter! Just look for UFOP: Starbase 118!
The push is beginning! The doors to our fantastic roleplaying community are always open to new members, but we need you to help us knock down the front wall in order to accommodate a stampede of new members when Star Trek: Into Darkness hits our screens! Every available fleet member can easily spend a little under 10 minutes to help us to advertise our group and channel that stampede in the right direction!
“So what do I need to do,” I hear you ask?
Simple! We’re looking to increase our representation across active Star Trek forums with the group’s best possible ambassadors – you guys! All you need to do to start helping is to head here to find a list of active forums, make sure you’re signed up, and start posting! There should already be a place to post personal logs for your character (look for SB118 in Roleplaying/SIMming/Gaming) but you don’t have to restrict yourself to that! Join in with anything at all that’s happening on the board, making sure you’re always representing us well and painting us in a good light!
So how does that get us new members? When you join the forum, make sure you have a great sig (you could use the one you already have for our own forums if it’s compliant with forum rules!) and include a link to our main site (https://www.starbase118.net) in your signature text! The combination of an eye catching signature, a catchy slogan and that link should have members flocking to our gates!
Remember – you don’t need to be a member of the Publicity Team to go forth and recruit! If you get a taste for it then please feel free to join us!
As Star Trek: Into Darkness draws ever closer, it’s time for UFOP: Starbase 118 to prepare to send out hails on all frequencies in preparation to bring as many people as we can into the fleet! The best possible ambassador for our group is YOU! Who better to instill enthusiasm into the legions of trek fans out there and tempt them to join our ranks!
While the Publicity Team members put their pedal to the metal, there are a couple of little things that the membership at large (that’s you!) can do that will have a serious impact in helping us out! For those of you who have Facebook accounts, we’d love you to follow us! Everyone who likes and shares our posts is spreading the good word to friends who may potentially do the same! That gives us a shot at reaching people who we would otherwise not be reaching, and there’s no telling who we could tempt in. The same goes for Twitter! Give us a follow and retweet our posts! It’s all great advertising!
Also, we have a great opportunity to make an impact in real life by posting our awesome flyers in local comic book/sci-fi stores! To find out how to get one, for free, and help to spread the magic to other trek fans, head here. Advertising in this way helps us reach out to countless people who may not know that we exist or that email roleplaying exists!
If you’re interested in joining the Publicity Team to help with the big push, check out our recruitment page!
With your help, we should be able to dramatically increase the number of people who want to join our awesome fleet over the course of the next couple of months and beyond! Any time you can spare for us would be greatly appreciated! Remember – more members means more ships, a stronger community, and huge possibilities for the future!
We’re now just under two months away from the most eagerly anticipated Star Trek event of the year – the release of Star Trek: Into Darkness! When the first film in J. J. Abrams’s run was released in 2009, UFOP: Starbase 118 saw a large influx of members. Some of you reading now may remember joining at that time! We’re expecting a similar occurence this time around – we need to be ready to reach out to the members of the Star Trek community who are itching to continue the journey to seek out new life and discover strange new worlds that begins, or is reawakend, with a simple trip to the cinema!
The publicity team has always been responsible for marketing our group and enticing in new members to swell our ranks. We’re currently in the process of a relaunch – refocussing our efforts into search engine optimisation, social networking and casting our net as wide as possible to increase the number of people that we reach. We’re always looking for new members to help us in our endeavours! If you can spare 15 minutes per week (or more!) and you’d like to help bring new blood into the group then all you need to do is talk to your CO, who will be able to arrange with Captain Herrera for you to join the team! But joining the publicity team isn’t the only way you can help!
This call goes out to ALL members of the fleet who have a Facebook account (under your real name!) – have you found the UFOP: Starbase 118 Facebook page and liked it? We need you to like and share our Facebook posts – the more people we have doing that, the more our group gets noticed. Who knows, someone in your extended network of friends might be a secret Star Trek addict and dying to joing a Play By Email roleplay? And if your friends like and share our posts too, that’s when the magic happens! Taking it even further, if you have a twitter account, the same thing is possible – follow us on twitter and retweet our posts to spread the word to the masses!
We need you! It’s time to move this project to warp speed!
The first month of the new year has come and gone and the Publicity Team is really looking forward to everything that Writing Improvement Month will bring to Starbase 118 as a fleet, as well as to the RPG realm in general.
The SB118 command staff and helpers in the fleet have designated February Starbase 118’s Writing Skills Improvement Month. The WSIP is an entire month of activities that will give the fleet members the opportunity to enhance their writing and simming skills. There is a full lineup of guest speakers, workshops, tutorials, interactive events, all which sound very exciting and useful for our fleet members and guests to enjoy. The listing of events can be found here!
November was a busy month for the Publicity Team. Now that winter is upon us, there have been more and more returning members to the fleet and more interactions outside of the fleet. The membership has been building with more internal activities, including the caption contest on the forums and the introduction of the Star Trek Stories featured site, where the writers of the fleet can share their own personal stories. This month was the start of a new weekly story that I started on the Star Trek Stories. For those that would like to write their own featured story or column, contact Captain Nicholotti.
I have personally talked with new members that have told me that they found us by Google search. This demonstrates that the team, and the fleet as whole, is succeeding in their marketing efforts. We are constantly growing, building a very strong online presence, and the Publicity Team is leading the way forward.
Now, for this month, I’d like to recognize some excellent members of the TEam. The top point earner for the month again is Lt. Jg T’Mhin Ah’mygahn. Captain Diego Herrera comes in a close second place.
The Publicity Team is always looking for members. If you have any questions or you would like to join the team, please contact me, Lt. Commander Alexander Matthews.
