Publicity Team Monthly Update: October 2012

This month has gone by quickly, but it’s brought a few changes to the Publicity team. While we are still working hard at bringing in new members ahead of the new movie, which is due out in May of 2013, we have also taken some steps to spotlight our members in some new ways. Perhaps the most prevalent of these is the launch of our new writing spotlight site, StarTrekStories.net.

When you visit the new site, you’ll see a few things have been included there. First, you’ll see something called ‘Alexander’s Story’. Since sometime last year, Lt Commander Alexander Matthews has been writing a monthly cliffhanger that he adds on to each month. From now on, these story additions will be kept on this site, so be sure to visit each month to get the latest update on his story. You’ll also see, on the site, that all writing challenge submissions and the winners of each Top Sims round are published there. Finally, you’ll see a category for original fiction, written by our members just for fun, and a new column, called the Worlds of Starbase 118.

Publicity Team MVP for September!

It’s been a fun month here in the Starbase 118 Publicity team. We’ve been working hard at bringing the Fleet to people all across the world who are looking for a place to call home. Not only have we been able to bring in quite a few new members by maintaining our rankings within Google searches, but we were also able to participate in the 2012 Ongoing Worlds Simming Fall Fest, which helped get our name out there as well.

Overall, it’s also been a productive month, with new avenues being used to promote the site and what we offer here, and older methods still alive and kicking. Members of the team have been working hard, and accumulating points that go towards one of the Forums badge awards Publicity team members can earn.

For September, and the second month in a row, the highest points earner was Lieutenant JG T’Mihn Ah’mygahn from the USS Tiger A, with FltCapt Turner only a couple of points behind! Lieutenant Ah’mygahn and FltCapt. Turner helped the team in a variety of different ways, including sharing posts on facebook and twitter, and voting on the RPG gateway for the 118 site. Thank you both for your help and dedication this month and every month!

Want to join the publicity team? Contact Lt Commander Alexander Matthews for more information or to be added to the lists. This team is not time intensive and really helps us grow the Fleet by bringing in new members. Even ten minutes a week can be a great help, so please join us and see what you can do to help spread the word of the best Star Trek RPG out there!

Publicity Team MVP for August!

As some of you may or may not know, the Starbase 118 Publicity team, the team responsible for spreading the word about our Fleet to all the corners of the internet, and even sometimes in the real world, has rolled out a new Mission system. This new system allows members to participate in various activities in order to earn points. Points are accumulated and each month we will feature the name of the officer who contributed the most to our publicity pursuits for this month.

In addition to a moment of spotlight, members of the team can earn a forum badge with accumulating stripes for more points that are gained.

For the month of August, the highest points earner was Lieutenant JG T’Mihn Ah’mygahn from the USS Tiger A! Lieutenant Ah’mygahn helped the team in a variety of different ways, including sharing posts on facebook and twitter, and voting on the RPG gateway for the 118 site. Thank you Lieutenant for your help and dedication this month!

Publicity Team Reboot

One of the few questions that we always ask our newest members is simply ‘How did you find us?’ While the answer to this question varies, it all points back to one place; the Publicity Team. From Google searches to posts on various RPG related websites, it is the work that this team does that brings in new members from all over the net, and similarly, all over the world. But how does it work?

For those new to the team, or older members that have not been on the team in the past, let me explain some things in a nutshell about what the team is. As you know not all things are that easy to find on the internet. Some things that you enter into a search engine can bring you tons of possible links that can take you almost anywhere. Because there are millions of websites out there, it takes a specific strategy to show up at the beginning of the search results where people are more likely to find us.

That is where this team comes in. By employing a certain strategy to market our site and our service, the game, to the search engines, and in turn, those who would be interested in playing, the Publicity Team is able to show up at the top of various searches related to the Starbase 118 game. But that’s not the end of what we do! Team members also use facebook, and twitter to promote the group via social media, and we turn to the real world as well, where we talk to our friends, family members, and associates about this awesome hobby.

The time factor involved in the daily duties for a team member is next to nothing, just a few clicks once a day and you’re done. Want to contribute more? There’s always more that can be done! Joining the team is simple too; just contact Lt Commander Alexander Matthews, or post in the Publicity Team recruitment forums. There is no rank requirement, so everyone, even new Ensigns are welcome to join!

Recently, the team’s gone through quite a few changes. Lt. Colonel Miles Unum, the team’s previous facilitator, had to retire due to real life commitments. Since this event has come about, the publicity team has restructured and reformed. The missions for the team are basically the same, but with a new outlook, new rewards, and more to get involved with. Here are just a few of the interesting things to look for:

  • A points system, with monthly awards and recognition.
  • A new membership forums badge with distinction for different points benchmarks.
  • Invite a member to join the team and receive points.
  • Invite a friend to join, after they graduate the academy, and after each promotion they receive, get points.
  • Submit weekly reports for your points to be recorded and accumulated.
  • Facebook likes and shares still continue, but we’re always looking to expand our facebook program.
  • Posting on StarTrek.com where other fans can see what we do and who we are.
  • Vote for our game on the RPG Gateway.
  • Writing three hundred word articles, for publication throughout the internet, giving us a Search Engine boost.

These are just some of the things that you can look forward to while helping to place the name of the fleet around the world. No matter how much time you have to give, there is a way that you can help. Join today and help grow the Starbase 118 Fleet by simple contributions and easy tasks.

The Publicity Team Interview

Have you ever wondered how members are attracted to our group? Have you thought how you could make a difference and draw people to our community? Would you like to help make Starbase 118 the best RPG group in the world?

Here in the interview, I have spoken with with Lt. Colonel Miles Unum of the Duronis II Embassy, and leader of the Publicity Team. He explains the duties and requirements of joining, as well as what is gained with what the team does. I also spoke with Commander Kalianna Nicholotti of Starbase 118 Ops about what she does with content created by the team each month.

A Call to Arms: The SB118 Publicity Team

From the desk of Lieutenant JG Evanna Blackwood

I know we have some very active crews that love this fleet as much as I do. What you all might not be aware of are some of the ways we can get the SB118 Fleet name out there and let more people know we’re here – this is what the Publicity Team is working hard to do. For those of you who want to do well and move up in the fleet here is some food for thought; according to Fleet Admiral Wolf, the Publicity Team is perhaps the most important team there is right after the training group. As I said, it brings in new players and helps us grow but the more members we can attract (and keep), the better your chances of becoming a Captain. Think of it like this, without new members we cannot open new ships and promotions slow down. I know we have the best Star Trek sim, indeed RPG that there is, so lets see if we can get the word out there.

Missions Possible: Help Spread the Word About Starbase 118!

With the new year, and the new Star Trek movie, quickly closing in on us, Starbase 118 has a unique opportunity to spread the word and bring in plenty of new members to our Fleet. The problem is, many people don’t know quite what to do to help gain the following needed to build a really big online presence. Thankfully, the Publicity team has made this task easy and quick for everyone in the Fleet to participate in. Rather than having to join the team to help spread the word of our awesome Star Trek RPG, you can simply join the movement by completing one or more of the new ‘Missions Possible.’

The Missions Possible project is the result of plenty of brainstorming and a bit of organization by members of the official SB118 Publicity team. With the end goal being to build social buzz that helps to not only grow our authority on the Web, but our player base as well, the Publicity team decided that it would be best to enlist the help of the rest of the Fleet. Without having to commit to any long term projects, each and every player from Ensign to Admiral can do something that will help to bring in more players to our group. And more players means more ships, more promotions, and in the end, more fun!
