How you can help us grow

The more people who join our community, the more ships we can launch and the stronger our community becomes, as well as providing exciting opportunities for our players. But spreading the word about our community to prospective members can be challenging when there’s so many other things vying for peoples’ attention, which is why we need your help!

JOIN THE PUBLICITY TEAM
On the Publicity Team we share ideas on how to advertise our community, and then put those ideas into action. You don’t need to be a marketing whiz to join, and participation on the team can be as simple as finding content to share on our social media channels. Most other tasks take no more than an hour or two a month. Not only that, but there is no commitment, so you can join now and step back later if it doesn’t fit your schedule. What’s to lose?

Click here to join the team. You’ll be added to the team’s email list, introduced to the others and then be able to jump right in.

SHARE OUR POSTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA
We’re really active on Facebook, Twitter & Tumblr? We post a variety of content, from Star Trek to writing, so there is something for everybody. If you see something you like, make sure to like it, and if you want, why not give it a share or a retweet or even post a comment?

Found something interesting, why not share it with us? It could be an article relating to space exploration, an updated on an upcoming Star Trek project or even an image related to writing. If you liked it, it’s guaranteed someone else will.

If you have a great idea for something we should post on social media, use the submission box – it only takes a moment!

BLOG ABOUT US AND SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE
Do you write a blog? Providing a link back to us along with a review of our community and game can have an impact on how we rank in search engines, meaning we are easier to find.

Between 400 & 800 words about your experience with us will help us, and a personal review really helps validate our community. You could talk about what brought you to us, what has kept you here and how you’re enjoying your time with us.

If you happen to write a blog post about us, please let us know, we’d love to share it our social media channels.

TELL FAMILY AND FRIENDS
Word of mouth is still one of the greatest forms of advertising. By sharing your love of our community with others, you can inspire them and pique their curiosity on what happens here.

Let people know how you having discovered new life forms, or have managed to outwit an old Star Trek foe, such as the Tholians. You’d be surprised how infectious your enthusiasm can be!

The Fleet Needs You! How you can get the word out

You may have noticed an increase in our social media activity. For those of you who may not know, social media can be a powerful tool to help grow our fleet by providing content that people enjoy and want to engage with, thus increasing our potential reach. In addition to that, having an active social media presence can help boost our site’s Google rankings, meaning our page will show higher on Google searches.

Increasing our reach and rankings means we’ll be able to expose our fleet to more people. More people means more cadets, leading to greater opportunities for us.

What can you do to help?

One of the biggest things you can do for us is to follow us on our social media platforms. You can find us at:

Facebook
Twitter
Tumblr
Youtube
Instagram

With recent changes to Facebook’s newsfeed, there is an extra step. Head to our Facebook page, click where is says: “Following” -> “In Your News Feed” -> “See First”. Essentially this means everytime we post something, it will appear towards the top of your news feed.

Like, Comment and Share content
The more people who engage with our content, the more people outside of our community we can reach. As an example, a recent Facebook post that was liked 18 times, commented on twice and shared 3 times reached over 160 people who weren’t part of our fleet.

Submissions
We are always on the lookout for content related to Star Trek, space, science or writing. It could be a quote from a sim, an image or video or even a link. Basically, if you think something would interest the community, let us know!

Ideas
We would love to hear your suggestions and hear about the types of content you would like to see.

Star Trek and the Coming Year

Star Trek: Discovery is promising to be a fantastic series by approaching the well-established canon and giving everyone a new idea of the world that Gene Roddenberry invented, the truth behind the perceived utopia and what actually happened in the first Federation/Klingon war. Yet some wonder if Star Trek could break new ground but Star Trek: Discovery has proven that it can.

Sexuality, until recently, has been a topic to be – and when it was discussed or shown at all, it was usually between a male and female. While it was also rumored that Seven of Nine, of Star Trek: Voyager, was intended to be a lesbian character, that storyline never materialized. Instead, it was Star Trek: Discovery that created the first openly gay character of the franchise and shown a fully developed character storyline.

With its first season winding down and the series being critically acclaimed, we are pretty much guaranteed another season. With the characters showing true diversity, are we surprised? With talk of a new Star Trek movie directed by Quentin Tarantino, there looks to be a great future for the franchise in 2018.

Are you on Instagram? Check out our new posts!

Thanks to the beautiful work of Ens. Kyso Nohx, Counselor of the Gorkon, we’ve been able to post a series of incredible new images to our Instagram account, like the one at the bottom of this post.

Not only is our Instagram account a place to showcase our works of art, but it’s also a great recruiting channel as it grows in popularity. That’s why it’s particularly helpful, if you’re a member of Instagram, for folks like you to follow our account and like our posts when you see them – it helps others, who might not yet be members, also see our posts.

Three ways you can help the fleet grow

“How can I help the fleet?” As Facilitator of the Publicity Team, I get this question a lot. And there’s no doubt in my mind that the dedication and love of our members – expressed in questions like this – is what has kept our fleet going for more than 23 years now.

So here’s a few quick things that everyone can do to help:

Share our posts on Facebook and Twitter

Have you been to our Facebook or Twitter pages? We post a lot of content from around the Star Trek world and from our own community. When you see something you like, be sure to click the Like button and – if you’re so inclined – share it or retweet it.

Blog about us and share your experience

Do you run a blog? Or maybe a Tumblr? Linking back to us with a review of our community, and the game, can have a noticeable impact on our rankings in search engines.

Shoot for 400-800 words about your experience. You can talk about how you found us, why you joined, what it was like to start training, and how you’re enjoying your ship.

Not only will your post help others find us, but it will validate our community in their eyes when it comes from a personal review!

Tell your friends and family about us

Word of mouth is one of the most powerful forms of advertising and one that should not be ignored. You, in person, telling people about our community will inspire and get them curious about what goes on here.

Have fun conversing about Star Trek and how you solved an engineering problem aboard your ship or discovered a new form of life. Being able to show your enthusiasm makes it contagious and hard to resist!

Can I do more?

Yes! UFOP: Starbase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG has a Publicity Team dedicated to helping new members find our community.

Join the team by reaching out and volunteering on our forums.

Help our fleet grow so we can launch new vessels

As a member of our community, we know that you want to help it thrive and grow – the more people that join, the more ships we can expand to, and the stronger our community becomes.

But without your help, getting the word out to prospective members can be really hard. That’s why we have a Publicity Team, where folks like you can come together, share ideas on how to advertise our community, and put ideas into action.

Joining the team is easy, and participating only takes an hour or two every month. There’s no commitment, so you can join now and step back later if it doesn’t work out with your schedule, so why not give it a try?

Fill out the form below to submit your information to the team’s facilitator. They’ll add you to the team’s email list, introduce you to others, and get you started in a jiffy!

  • This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.

Why, and how, to join the Publicity Team

Each month, roughly a dozen new members join, while many others depart on Leaves of Absence, or retire from the group. It’s the natural cycle of our community that as some people join, others will have to step away.

But unless we’re able to introduce more members to our community than leave each month, we’re faced with the prospect of diminishing size, which can eventually lead us to decommission ships. That’s why our Publicity Team works so hard every month to spread the word about our community, and entice new people to join!

We can use your help. The team needs people like yourself who are enthusiastic about our community and participating in the process of finding new members. It’s simple and fun! Each month, Publicity Team members choose a task to work on, which can include writing guest posts for other websites, finding social media content to post, keeping up with our various online bulletin board posts, among other easy jobs. We’ll coach you each step of the way in how to complete your task, and they usually only take 30 minutes to an hour each month.

So what do you think? Ready to help us find some new people? Use the form below to sign up! You’ll be added to the team email list and receive more information.

Publicity Project: Share this video with your friends

Are you a member of Facebook? If so, you can help us grow the fleet! It’s easy – here’s how:

First, head to our Facebook page and make sure to click Like to follow us.

Next, check out the video created by Admiral Wolf explaining what simming is and how to get started. This is a great post to share with your own friends on Facebook, since it introduces people who aren’t familiar with simming what we do, and how to get involved.

So on that post, click the “Like” button, and then click “Share.” You may want to add your own text to the post – something like this, perhaps?

Check out this video! I’m a member of the group that created it, and I highly recommend joining.

By hitting Like and Share on our Facebook posts – like this one – and writing a little about how much you enjoy being a member of our fleet, your Facebook friends can learn about what our community and perhaps be enticed to join. Just imagine all the people we can expose our fleet to by simply clicking a few buttons!

Once you’ve liked and shared the post, head to our forums and take credit for helping promote our fleet!

The Publicity Team needs you!

If we want to launch new ships and provide up and coming officers with the opportunities they seek, we have to grow our fleet with new members. That’s why it’s so important that our community members participate in our publicity efforts. The Publicity Team is one of the fleet’s most important teams and we need your help!

Getting involved is easy only takes a few moments.

The Publicity Team has a number of small, simple tasks that, each month, can help grow our influence, spread the word about our group, and pique the interest of Star Trek writers around the net. From posting on Star Trek forums to gathering social media content, most of our tasks don’t require any particular expertise, and can be completed by anyone in 15-30 minutes. If we don’t have enough people to help each month, our goals fall short and it’s hard to sustain recruiting levels to the point of replacing the folks who go on leave or retire from the group.
