Crew of the USS Astraeus gets back to work following a spectacular New Year’s celebration

PAR’THA EXPANSE — Brilliant fireworks conclude a New Year’s celebration as the crew of the USS Astraeus begin making preparations for a return to Lanaxa.

With another year complete and the start of the new century before them, the crew of the USS Astraeus, NCC-70652, concluded their New Year’s celebration with a spectacular show in space as Lt. Amuro McKnight led a squad of fighters in putting on a brilliant display of fireworks and light. Capt. Mei’konda Delano also presented the crew with several awards, including the promotion of the Chief Science Officer, Noa Levinson, to LtCmdr. A fitting memorial to the lives of the ten Chin’toka crewmen who lost their lives on the mission to rescue the Lanaxa system was also unveiled and the crew broke up into several small groups to finish the celebration.

The next day, it was back to work for some of the crew as members of the engineering staff, led by LtCmdr. Cadfael Peters, set about testing the ship’s engine for Warp 15.

The ship’s counselling staff, led by LtCmdr. and CMO Elizabeth Snow, including former First Officer Cmdr. Jaelyne Isa, were introduced to a new and unusual Tellarite counsellor. In the words of Isa, “she’s going to be interesting to work for… erm, I mean with,” apparently playing off a running joke that developed during that initial meeting.

LtCmdrs. Esa Kiax and Toryn Raga tested out the ship’s variable gravity gym, while Cmdr. Serala spent time reconnecting with the crew.

Meanwhile, the crew has been following the situation on Lanaxa following the near miss of the rogue neutron star. While there does not appear to be any early indications that the star’s passing has had any lasting effects on the system, the crew did note that some sort of pandemic was affecting the lower classes of the planet’s population. As a result, hospital systems already strained by injuries caused as a result of people attempting to reach escape transports, have become overwhelmed.

Plans are already underway to return and offer assistance in stopping the spread of the pandemic once the damaged Chin’toka has been transferred to the USS Roark, a Sovereign-class starship, for towing to Utopia Planitia.
