We won another award: Sci-Fi Avatars, “Captain Award”

Many thanks to the folks over at Sci-Fi Avatars, who have presented us with the “Captain Award” for general excellence in Star Trekking!

Sci-Fi Avatars helps make avatars for simming characters in Star Trek and Stargate.

We won a Squiddie!

The Ongoing Worlds Medal for Superior Online Role Playing (aka the Squiddie) is presented annually to one person, one game, and one club. And this year, we’re proud to be the recipient for the “Facilitating the Community Experience” category. Here’s what the judges had to say:

Over the last few years, UFOP: StarBase 118 has been the leader in balancing internal and external community. In 2015, the club hosted its second FallFest and continued to present writing workshops and other events with published authors for both its own players and individuals from other clubs and games. These experiences have led to both improved relations and cooperation within the greater simming community and continuing simming excellence back home. UFOP’s outstanding games include the USS Darwin, Squiddie Laureate StarBase 118: Operations, and more. In addition, UFOP remains one of the last bastions of the script posting format, an integral part of simming history. All-in-all, UFOP does community and does it right.

This is the second Squiddie for UFOP: StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG. The first was awarded to our StarBase 118 Ops sim in 2013.

We want to thank each and every member whose hard work and dedication have helped us earn this awesome recognition, including those members and staff who helped make our most recent FallFest a success. It’s incredibly gratifying to have a community of such dedicated individuals!

StarBase 118 Ops wins a Squiddie

squiddie640x480Our very own StarBase 118 Ops, commanded by Captain Kali Nicholotti, has won a “Squiddie” award (officially known as the “OngoingWorlds Medal for Superior Online Roleplaying”) for excellence in role playing. The award description is as follows:

Through its creative mix of combining the familiar with the cutting edge, StarBase 118 Operations has created a truly remarkable role playing environment. Its cast of all-star writers effortlessly does the impossible: making the game approachable while at the same time pushing new boundaries. Also being highly prolific, the game is able to tackle episodes of many different flavors and to explore those ideas in great depth and detail. StarBase 118 Operations traces its origins back to 1994, almost 20 years ago.

Beyond just relevant today, the sims has stayed true to its core while continually reinventing itself to adapt to the ever-changing role playing environment.

Congratulations to Capt. Nicholotti and her crew for the award!

Capt. Diego Herrera receives the Simming Prize

Cotis-medalWe’re very proud to announce that our very own captain of the USS Vigilant, Diego Herrera, has received the Simming Encyclopedia’s Simming Prize.

This prestigious honor is given out to up to five recipient writers/characters, simming groups, or simming alliances once a year. Last year, our community as a whole received it, while this year it’s one of our staff who’s being honored. The citation is as follows:

For his community development work within UFOP: StarBase 118. In addition to having earned a reputation as a captain who ensures his crew members are engaged in the sim, Ed has become a cornerstone of the club’s community. He is active with the UFOP: SB 118’s academy training program, where he helps teach new simmers. For two years running, he has been the creative force behind the club’s “summer blockbuster” fleet-wide plot arc, developing the overall story arc and writing mission briefings for each ship. Ed has also facilitated the club’s “Writing Challenge” judge’s team and was the leading force behind UFOP: SB 118’s “Writing Improvement Month.”

Please join us in congratulating Capt. Herrera on this forum thread.

UFOP: StarBase 118 recognized with second lifetime Simming Prize

On March 12, the 2011 winners of the Simming Prize, the highest award issued by the Simming League, were announced, and UFOP: StarBase 118 was recognized “for its exemplary community, which for over 15 years has consistently offered detailed, high quality sims, and a welcoming, friendly gaming environment.” This is the second Simming Prize for our community; UFOP: SB 118 was previously recognized in 2006 for its use of internet technology and was commended for its “rich graphics and useful information, presented in a well organized and streamlined fashion, facilitating easy navigation.” With this second win, UFOP: StarBase 118 joins an elite group of laureates and achieves recognition for the talented and friendly membership that makes it the award-winning organization that it is.

Starbase 118 awarded the Platinum Rook Award!

Starbase 118 has been awarded the Platinum Rook Award for having more than fifteen years of excellence in role playing. Formed in June 1994 by Fleet Admiral Tristan Wolf, Starbase 118 was a live sim Star Trek role-playing game. Over the last seventeen years, the group has grown exponentially and moved to e-mail based sims.

Very few role-playing organizations can boast about the longevity of their group, and the Total Drama Website decided to recognize Starbase 118 with the Platinum Rook Award for its seventeen years of excellence.

The Total Drama Website was established in 2011 and strives to list the best role-playing groups for all genres for those who love the drama of online role play.
