THE BORDERLANDS — The crew of the USS Excalibur (NCC-41903-A) has been dispatched to mediate a dispute between the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Republic, and the Son’a Command.
The three powers, familiar forces in the Borderlands, agreed that Starfleet would be a suitable third party to serve as mediators for the talks. Starfleet Command dispatched the Excalibur, whose commanding officer, Commodore Kalianna Nicholotti, has extensive experience in diplomacy.
The factions offered little information regarding the source of the dispute or their inability to resolve their differences, but the Son’a ambassador, Adhar Gaez’ael, suggested the matter was of critical importance.
“We are not at liberty to disclose details, but suffice to say, the survival of the Son’a may very well depend on a successful outcome to these negotiations,” Gaez’ael said. “I could not convince my Klingon and Romulan counterparts of what is at stake for my people. My goal for these talks is to get Starfleet to empathize with our plight.”
The crew of the Excalibur will welcome the delegates by inviting them to a “Taco Tuesday” gathering organized by junior crew members. The gathering, originally intended to be a morale-boosting and team-building exercise, is centred around an ancient Earth dish that is highly customizable.
“I’m highly confident we’ll be able to accommodate our guests,” said Excaliburs Executive Officer Addison MacKenzie. “Tacos are about as flexible of a meal as it gets. We’ve done our homework and we have several options for each of the delegates that should appeal to their palates and dietary needs.”
The talks will take place aboard the Excalibur in a neutral location and will begin on Tuesday.
