Excalibur crew returns to the present after Q encounter

Deep Space 224 — The crew of the USS Excalibur (NCC-41903-A) safely returned to the present after a second encounter with a member of the Q Continuum.

The Q, known as CloQ, is a temporal-obsessed member of the Continuum who first made himself known to this crew last year when they dropped the USS Resolution (NCC-78145) into a pocket of null space and forced the crew to battle against a 23rd-century Klingon bird of prey, reliving the same five minutes in time over again until they found a way out of the trap.

During this encounter, the senior staff was split into small groups and forced to reenact several deadly moments in galactic history, including the sinking of the RMS Titanic, the Battle of Betazed, and the Magna Roma civil war, and an encounter with a 23rd-century doomsday machine, among others.

The crew managed to return to the present only by chance, when it was discovered that a massive buildup of chroniton particles forced the altered realities to merge, leading the senior staff to theorize that maintaining a significant number of alternate scenarios was too much of a drain on CloQ.

In the aftermath of this encounter, several members of the senior staff discovered that a sudden surge in chroniton particles precedes an incursion by CloQ. They have started working on a way to use that as an advantage to prevent his appearance.

The Excalibur’s Chief Science Officer, LtCmdr. Etan Iljor, is one of the leads on the project.

When asked about his determination to make the project a success, he said, “We cannot simply leave ourselves at the mercy of an omnipotent being. We have to formulate a defence against them- no matter how Herculean that task.”
