PROXIMA SIGMA — After narrowly managing to prevent cataclysmic disaster on two Federation worlds, USS Ronin takes terrorist Emzai, of Grus Beta III into custody.
With a last minute save, the Ronin crew was able to thwart the impending devastation in part by using one of the devices that reflected the main wave back to the origin colony to disperse it before it could destroy Alpha Sigma. Meanwhile the Soliton Express was successfully decoupled, which freed most of the cars of passengers. Chief Engineer, LtCmdr. Marty Tucker and a second team led by LtCmdr. V’Len Kel, in the shuttle Strauss, were able to dislodge the engine from the wave minutes from impact. At some risk, as both ended up falling into the atmosphere of the planet. A fortuitously timed high atmosphere tractor beam from the Ronin after it fired torpedoes to disperse the wave arrested their descent and possible crash on the planet’s surface.
The terrorist Emzai, having been captured prior to the above incidents, was reported to have had no shortage of insults for the Starfleet crew. Capt. Karrod Niac spoke with the prisoner at length and was seen escorting her to Sickbay. Unconfirmed reports claim that she intentionally set traps on the devices used in her attack, and only agreed to disable them if the Captain put his own life on the offer. An explosive reaction, possibly from the aforementioned trap, was detected in Sickbay’s isolation chamber shortly thereafter. Capt. Niac ended up in critical condition, with wounds egregious enough to warrant his symbiont Niac to temporarily be placed into Lt. JG Alyndra Syrex until the Captain could undergo life saving surgery.
With their Captain on the mend and the crew free on shore leave on a grateful planet, Proxima Sigma, the crew had a bittersweet moment of joy as a couple of their crew took their leave. An emotional farewell with all hands saw LtCmdr. Luxa Lorana, badly injured during the mission and in a support chair temporarily, as she left for Jupiter station. LtCmdr. Lorana is to lead the new Maleconite research team there. The crew also said farewell to LtCmdr. Ava Munro as she was ordered to report to the USS Artemis-A to take over as its First Officer.
We wish them both the best of luck in their future endeavours. As do their former crew, as this reporter overhead more than a few vocalizations of ‘Ronin Strong’ throughout the farewell ceremony.
