While performing Search and Rescue operations, the USS Chin’toka makes contact with an unknown alien species

PTE-2891 — One of the away teams from the USS Chin’toka (NCC-97187) vanished while researching a big deposit of reskarii, a natural deposit on the planetoid. The crew instantly went into search and rescue mode, sending another team to the surface, headed by Cmdr. Jaelyne Isa, to find the missing personnel.

This team searched for the area where the previous crew had gone missing. They followed a trail of reskarii deposits back to a central spot that was oddly devoid of deposits.

While they were discussing how to proceed, an extraterrestrial species of pure thought energy reached them and, upon scanning LtCmdr Toryn Raga, mistook him for one of their foes. Diplomatic negotiations began with the goal of reducing tensions and convincing the being that they are not the enemy.

Meanwhile, back on the ship, Capt. Mei’konda Delano and bridge officers worked to supplement the search by modifying several probes to withstand the plasma storms in the area so that they could help relay communications and sensor data between the teams.

The bridge crew also began working on a method to detect a cloaked shield, which they assumed was the cause of their team’s disappearance. Given the region’s history of Romulan domination, the bridge crew suspected whoever was responsible had gotten some Romulan technology left behind when the Empire withdrew. The scan was successful, as the team acquired clear data and located their missing officers.

Unbeknownst to the rest of the crew, the missing team had also contacted the species, who informed them that they were self-appointed caregivers of the local species and had devoted themselves to preserving them from further damage by the “pointed ears.” As a result, they seized the squad to ascertain their motive and assure that they would not endanger the locals.

With the missing team now found and conversations with the locals starting, the crew is hopeful of a peaceful outcome and hopes to fix the problem very soon.
