The Social Media Team organises and maintaining the fleet’s social media channels. Today we meet with the Social Media Team Facilitator Fleet captain Kali Nicholotti so we can learn more about this important part of our community!
DeVeau: Thank you for joining us. Can you please start by giving us an overview of the Social Media Team and how it supports our StarBase 118 community?
Nicholotti: Social media is a big part of our online lives these days. Having an active, thriving social presence gives our group a chance to not only keep our members in the loop on things that are happening around the fleet, but to show potential members that we are awake, alive, and active on many fronts. We can show off things our members are doing, images, simming, awards that are won, activities that are going on, and the general feeling of what makes Starbase 118 so wonderful.
What is your favorite thing about working on this taskforce?
I really enjoy getting to see all the different aspects of the fleet come together in one place, to be organized and then shared with everyone. It gives me a chance to see it all in once place and to have an almost constant flow of the happenings of the fleet as it is going on. From ship reports to the newest images made by our Image Collective, to general Trek news and space related news, there is an endless supply of information that is both exciting and keeps me in the middle of so much ‘know’.
Who can join this taskforce?
Anyone is eligible to help by gathering content. To be a specialist that posts content, we ask for at least a rank of Lt. JG and the commitment of time to make a certain number of posts per week dependent on the social media channel you choose to work on.

What is the most enjoyable thing about working on this taskforce?
The officers I get to work with are so much fun. A lot of what we do is similar from one week to the next, but when things come up that we can dig into, or when we just sit back and chat, that is when things get fun. Like much of the fleet, the fun starts when we connect with each other and the social media team is no different. They really are the ones that make this happen, so my hat is off to them all the time. They are an amazing group and I appreciate them and their hard work, and the opportunity to be a part of it too!
