The Newsies Team is tasked with updating the community news on a regular basis, with articles regarding fleet mission reports, team activities, and other administrative news. Today we meet with the Newsies Facilitator Commodore Sal Taybrim so we can learn more about this important part of our community!
DeVeau: Thank you for joining us. Can you please start by giving us a short overview of the Newsies and how it supports our StarBase 118 community?
Taybrim: Certainly! The News Team, often called the Newsies is one of the longest-running taskforces in StarBase 118. We write and schedule a variety of articles including announcements of important events, monthly ship reports, articles that support other teams and taskforces, writer’s workshop and of course interviews from Ensigns to Admirals! This taskforce supports the game not only through entertaining and informative articles but helping to raise our visibility to the outside world.
What is your favorite thing about working on this taskforce?
I love seeing how every journalist enjoys different types of articles. I really enjoy writing creative articles such as writer’s workshop, but other journalists love interacting through interviews or writing historical pieces that bring to light some of the stories of the founding of StarBase 118. The News Team has a wonderful variety of things to write about and the opportunity to interact with people from all over the fleet!
Who can join this taskforce?
Any full-time player with at least one mission under their belt can join as a news article writer. This includes members of every rank! Some Newsies are recommended by their commanding officer, others join by expressing interest to a fellow team member. We welcome everyone who is interested in writing articles for the news!
How would a new member join this taskforce?
A new member can either contact their Commanding Officer to join or message Sal Taybrim via Discord.
What is the most enjoyable thing about working on this taskforce?
Getting to talk to and meet players from across the fleet! Whether it’s Ship Closeups, Lower Decks interviews or just meeting new journalists, there are always fresh faces to get to know!
