The promotion to the rank of captain is a momentous occasion in our community – the result of years of writing, mentoring, and learning the ropes. This multi-step process starts with nomination from two members of the fleet at or above the rank of Commander, an initial vote from the Executive Council followed by a written exam, a practical exam, an interview with the Executive Council, and a final vote from the Executive Council. Candidates must show that they have mastery of the art of leadership, a strong knowledge of Star Trek, the ability to teach, and great simming skills. Shayne is our first captaincy promotion in over a year.
The Captains Council is pleased to announce that Randal Shayne, Commanding Officer of the USS Arrow, has been promoted to the rank of Captain!
Currently the commanding officer of the USS Arrow, Captain Randal Shayne has been a member of our community since 2015. After graduating from the Academy, Shayne was assigned to the USS Gemini as the Helm officer. He later served on the Apollo, Triumphant, Darwin, Atlantis, Blackwell, Columbia, Eagle, and Juneau before becoming the CO of the Arrow!
Quinn, the writer behind Shayne, has served as the facilitator of the Captain Council’s Picard Committee, a co-facilitator of the FNS Team, and Poll of the Week Team, and been a member of the Awards Committee, Training Team, and Advanced Starship Design Bureau.
He is highly decorated over his six year service history, having received the highest honor for both Helm officers and Operations officers with the Pilot’s Sextant and Voyager Medallion awards, as well as awards for his creative writing (Sheathed Sword, B-Plot Award, Khan Award, Scotty Cross, Nebula Bar), his mentoring and leadership (Pathfinder Award, Silver Palm), as well as the TOSMA, Russ Bar, and Chief’s Citation awards.
