KILLIPAARTALIK NEBULA — A joint Romulan-Federation science mission takes a mysterious turn as the USS Eagle ventures into uncharted space to locate the vanished IRW Ifir.
Following an extended shore leave, the USS Eagle has departed for the Killipaartalik Nebula in search of the IRW Ifir, a Romulan science vessel. The nebula—part of the uncharted space known as the Reaches, which the Eagle routinely patrols—has never before been studied. The Ifir was the first ship deployed under a new joint venture between Starfleet and the Romulan government to explore this region.
However, contact with the Ifir was lost shortly after its arrival, and the Eagle, under the command of Commodore Kalianna Nicholotti, has been sent to determine what befell the Romulan crew.
Initial reports from aboard the Eagle indicate that the ship lost warp power early into its journey through the nebula. With systems failing, the senior staff were forced to traverse the ship on foot—climbing through unpowered Jefferies tubes and descending inactive turbolift shafts—to regroup in the main shuttlebay.
“I’ve been aboard literally a day, and things have already gone to hell in a handbasket,” said Commander Genkos Adea, the new first officer, using what he described as “an interesting Earth expression.” He added, “Say what you like about the Artemis, and I will, but at least I had a period of adjustment.”
Once assembled, the senior staff were divided. Some remained aboard the Eagle to work on restoring main power, while others departed in shuttlecraft to investigate the drifting Ifir, which appears to be experiencing the same mysterious power loss. Why the Eagle’s shuttlecraft remain unaffected by the nebula’s energy drain—and what happened to the Ifir’s crew—remains unknown.
Further updates to follow as more information becomes available.
