Situation escalates for Ops Crew as plant and Population go on offensive

StarBase 118 Station

MIRI IV-A — The aggressive plant disrupting the colony of Miri IVa continues to spread, while local unrest escalates into aggression.

Teams working to halt the spread of the invasive plant, which has severely impacted daily life in Miri IVa, have encountered additional challenges. The plant not only extends its vines but also emits a dangerous psychotropic effect, causing irrational and sometimes aggressive behavior among the population.

Compounding the situation are food and resource shortages and a general distrust of Starfleet. The plant’s psychotropic effects have created a volatile environment, particularly in biodome 2B, where residents have resorted to looting food distribution centers and causing widespread fear and chaos.

When questioned about the locals’ hostility towards Starfleet officers, one Cart’henian man expressed frustration, stating, “Help? Where has their help been for the past fifteen years?” He referenced the prolonged delay in Miri IV’s Federation application, adding, “They turn up when they feel like it and act like heroes, but if they really wanted to help, why has it taken so long for them to suddenly show their faces again? Why isn’t Miri Four a part of their precious Federation already?”

Elsewhere, a team led by LtCmdr Solaris McLaren identified scientist Mark Rodrega as a person of interest. LtCmdr McLaren noted, “Rodrega put in a request for these plants roughly eight months ago. It’s strange that not only were the requests withdrawn, but they were also subsequently erased.” Rodrega is under suspicion, and it is hoped he will assist the Starfleet crew in reversing the plant’s effects.

While the investigation into Rodrega continues, Cmdr Gogigobo Fairhug, Lt. JG Haukea-Willow, Ensign T’Reyna, and local security chief Adjunct Ayalla Myran are working to physically contain the plant in biodome 2B. They have devised a method to attract the plant with torch sticks (the plant is drawn to heat) and then freeze it with frost-throwers.

Simultaneously, Lt Vitor Tito, Lt JGs Madison Marsh, and Corey Wethern are developing a cure for the plant’s psychotropic effects. LtCmdr Shar’Wyn Foster, Lt JG Korras, and Ensign Saschenka Kreshkova are providing much-needed aid to the colony’s civilian population. Commodore Sal Taybrim and newly arrived Ensign Eliana Darius are collaborating with Administrator Zeda Cass to resolve the situation diplomatically.

The general sentiment among the Starfleet crew is one of cautious optimism, as they believe they are making progress on multiple fronts. They hope to eliminate the aggressive plant soon.

However, the impact of these events on Miri IV’s Federation application remains uncertain.
