DENALI STATION – The crew enjoy some hard earned R&R during shore leave after their escape from an alternate universe.
After the challenges of the last mission the crew of Denali station made the most of shore leave back in their own universe. They had not returned alone, having unexpectedly brought with them Ijo Alea from another universe. In our reality Ijo, now deceased, had been engaged to Cmdre. Oddas, who understandably spent most of shore leave coming to terms with a version of her arriving on Denali Station.
LtCmdr. Kettick, who’d been injured in the last mission, spent time recovering in the clinic under the care of Doctors Vahin and Harford. Due to his insectoid physiology the Remmilian made a remarkably rapid recovery and was allowed to leave the clinic under doctor’s orders not to return to duty immediately. Kettick used some of this mandated time off to explore the ever-growing settlement outside Denali. He found himself investigating a newly opened plant shop where he encountered Doctor Vahin, who was looking for some plants to liven up the clinic Kettick had just spent so much time in, as well as Cmdr. DeVeau and her infant Shyla who were also out for a walk.
Aside from walking the city Cmdr. DeVeau used shore leave to start developing a zoo on Denali, after obtaining permission from the Commodore. She recruited Ens. Tanner’s aid, and together they investigated potential locations under the supervision of Shyla. Cmdr. DeVeau also used the meeting as an opportunity to get to know the newly arrived ensign.
Cmdr. DeVeau wasn’t the only crew member Tanner introduced himself to. He also met with the XO, had a medical performed by Lt. Vahin, and met with his immediate superior, LtCmdr. Kettick. Beyond these formal meetings he also joined a sailing trip organised by Lt. Drex.
At the start of shore leave Drex had taken delivery of a yacht, named the Aryex, from Denobula. He had subsequently organised a sailing trip to a nearby island, and was joined by Tanner, Vahin and LtCmdr Falt. Aside from Drex this motley crew had a complete lack of sailing experience, but despite that they were able to successfully sail to the island. En route they encountered an enormous whale-like creature they named the “Aryex Ring Whale.”
The surprise and joy at encountering the whale was only eclipsed for Falt by the emotions he felt when his parents later made a surprise visit to Denali ahead of the awards ceremony. His mother presented him with a hand tailored red dress uniform, which he gratefully accepted. When he enquired about the gift, and their presence on Denali, they rather suspiciously told him it had been suggested they attend the awards ceremony.
A day later the crew gathered in the roof top garden of Soldotna tower for the awards ceremony, where Cmdre. Oddas handed out hard earned ribbons and awards in recognition of everyone’s efforts in the last mission. She then promoted Lt. JG Vahin to full Lieutenant, and made him acting Chief Medical Officer, much to the man’s delight. Oddas then turned to Falt, whose suspicions about the real reason for his parent’s visit were proven true when she promoted him to full Commander.
