Recovery and Renewal: USS Khitomer and Ronin Crews Rebuild at DS33

DEEP SPACE 33, ALPHA ISLES — The USS Khitomer and USS Ronin docked at Deep Space 33, where both crews took time to recover from the challenges of their recent missions.

After its harrowing encounter with the Lattice Alliance and losing their former home, the USS Arrow, the crew of the USS Khitomer was granted a much-needed reprieve with shore leave on Deep Space 33 (DS33). For some, it was a time of reflection, but also a chance to forge new connections.

Ensign Ezra Zerva, for instance, took the opportunity to find a new companion. “Say hello, Foxy,” Zerva instructed his new puppy, a terran canine he carefully selected after considering a wide range of potential pets—including reptiles, cats, targs, ferrets, bats, and even a neutered tribble. Despite the Trill officer’s encouragement, the puppy offered no comment.

For others aboard the Khitomer, the leave was a time to mend what had been broken. From the Bridge on Deck 1 to the Sanitary Waste system on Deck 17, the ship’s engineering crew worked tirelessly to address issues both big and small. “A properly functioning Sanitary Waste System is a critical portion of the life support systems when one considers the health and well-being of the crew,” emphasized Ensign Lena Michaels in Main Engineering.

The Khitomer’s engineers were also heavily engaged with repairs to the USS Ronin, which had suffered significant damage during its recent mission. Personnel from the Khitomer’s engineering, counseling, and medical departments contributed their expertise to getting their sister ship back in action.

“I came over to take on some patients, some of the workload,” explained Lieutenant Pershan, a Khitomer counselor, as he exited the Ronin. “In this profession, weeks can go by without someone coming to see you willingly, and then a mission like that happens and suddenly everybody needs a couch to lie on.”

When asked if he had encountered any other Khitomer crew members aboard the Ronin, Pershan added, “I think Ensign Lacy was working on a deformed bulkhead, and I’m sure I saw Chief Ra before she disappeared into a Jeffries tube.”
