USS ‘Oumuamua encounters Second First Contact

GAMMA QUADRANT — After encountering a geodesic dome over 10 kilometres in diameter adrift in space, the crew of the USS ‘Oumuamua (NCC-81226) have discovered not one, but two sentient and warp-capable species aboard.

Interviews from the region report the vessel is a well-known feature of the quadrant. The Dome, as the locals colloquially refer to it, has been reported drifting at low warp for decades. The ‘Oumuamua however, went a step further than most local freighters to explore the strange object. Starfleet Representatives confirmed that the crew of the Luna Class explorer made contact with a sentient species aboard the vessel, apparently plant-based in origin.

“First contact procedures are underway with a species called the Eesse,” reported Lieutenant Commander Shikval, a Starfleet communications strategy representative for the region. “Additionally, Starfleet has made contact with a second species aboard The Dome called the Suculese. Additional press releases will follow once these two complicated first contact procedures are completed.”

While it’s not unheard of to have encounters with multiple species inhabiting the same areas during first contact, these types of scenarios are commonly treated as a single first contact. The fact that Starfleet confirmed two simultaneous first contact events indicated that what is occurring on The Dome is out of the norm.

Commenting on the condition of anonymity, a Petty Officer Second Class from the USS ‘Oumuamua provided additional details on the rare occurrence, “We’re still not sure exactly what the situation is, but it seems like the Suculese may be taking advantage of the Eesse without their knowledge. There are some weird phasic stealth properties at play, but what we know for sure is that the Suculese aren’t exactly playing nice.”
