Starbase 118 welcomes Lev Grossman

sb118-Lev-GrossmanFor this week’s lesson in writing greatness, Starbase 118 would like to welcome Lev Grossman! Please be sure to join Mr. Grossman on Sunday, February 17th as he engages our community in an interactive video chat highlighting some of the pointers of being a well-rounded writer.
Mr. Grossman is the author of The Magicians, which was a New York Times bestseller in both hardcover and paperback. He is a senior writer and book critic for Time magazine, and in 2011, he won the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer. It wasn’t always awards and best-selling books for Mr. Grossman. Having come from a background of comparative literature, with a degree to boot, he spent a multitude of time trying to figure out just what he might be doing with it all in the end. It was merely trial and error that lead him to believe that a future in comparative literature was not something he would entertain.
After a move to New York City, and some time work in web production, Mr. Grossman found a blossoming future in writing magazine articles covering other books and technology. It wasn’t long after that, that he found himself writing full-time for the New York Times, as well as other big names such as The Wall Street Journal, Lingua Franca, and Salon. Soon after his new-found success, he published an international best-seller entitled Codex in 2004, and soon to follow in 2009, came his New York Times Best-Seller The Magicians.
The Magicians chronicles the dark and thrilling journey of Quentin Coldwater, a hopeful college entrant on his way to the interview of all interviews. Upon finding his interviewer dead, Quentin discovers a manuscript with clues to a world of seemingly endless possibilities, and of endless consequence. What Quentin discovers exactly? Well that’s where you’ll have to read this best-seller to find out.
Again, be sure to join Mr. Grossman and your fellow writers in a video chat session, on Sunday February 17th (12pm PST / 3pm EST / 8pm GMT / Monday AM for Australia)! We could all stand to learn something from an acclaimed author that has made his living entertaining others.
