“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” -George Santayana
Five years ago, the Gorn Confederacy invaded Federation space. The result was a prolonged, bloody war which culminated in the Battle of Eratis. This event was known as the Gorn Conflict of 2383.
The heaviest fighting occurred in September 2383. It took place in the vicinity of the Federation station Deep Space 17, in the Eratis system after which the famous battle was named. It was the final official battle of the Gorn Conflict of 2383.
Deep Space 17 is a station of significant importance in the region, serving as the base of command for the local Federation task force. Close to the Gorn and Tholian borders, it became a key target when the Gorn tried to annex the entire region. They attacked the system with a fleet outnumbering the defending Federation force and their Free Trade Union allies.
The battle concluded when Federation and Gorn diplomats agreed to a ceasefire… but not before the USS Independence was lost, fortunately with her crew evacuating before the ship rammed a Gorn cruiser. Many of these officers went on to crew the USS Independence-A under Captain Idril Mar.
