Our group was formed in June of 1994 on AOL. In the years that followed, we were one of the pioneers of the PBEM format, moving from AOL chat rooms to AOL e-mail to internet e-mail, as it became increasingly popular among non-academia types. But our group suffered from a lack of direction and procedures, which made it difficult to temper the strong personalities and divergent opinions on how our group should proceed in the Wild West of the internet. In the year 2000, we started a project to codify our rules and procedures, and find a way to proceed on a common path for a common goal. Admiral Brian Kelly drafted a community Constitution, which was then voted-on by a new Captains Council, and was ratified on December 17th, 2000. Since then, we’ve benefited from strong governance among the Captains and Executive Councils, and enjoyed a relatively stable existence! Thank you to everyone who has helped make this an amazing organization, and kept the spirit of community and friendship alive. Here’s to another 10 years of simming!
