The speculation continues

If you have been following the Starbase 118Kirk and Harrison, from TrekMovie.com forum topic, New ST: Into Darkness Trailer, regarding the upcoming Star Trek movie, you’ll definitely be interested in what Damon Lindelof recently said about the villain in the movie.

We all know that Benedict Cumberbatch portrays the villain, but who is his character? Some have said that it’s Khan. Others believe it’s Garry Mitchell. The official reports identify Cumberbatch’s character as John Harrison, a terrorist from within Starfleet.

The producers have worked hard to keep the villain’s true identity a secret. The real shame would be that there is no secret identity and that what we’ve been told is all there is to the character. Whether I like J.J. Abrams’ version of Star Trek or not, I have to give him credit for his past projects, and especially the 2009 Star Trek movie, all of which surprised me and those with whom I’ve spoken. I feel confident in saying that there’s more to “John Harrison” than we know.

During an interview with the LA Times, Mr. Lindelof seemed to allude to the complexity of Kirk’s nemesis. He went on to explain that he wants the audience’s experience to be the same as the crew of the Enterprise. When Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and our other beloved heroes face their tormentor, we, the audience, will share their feelings, according to Lindelof.

In less than two months, we will have the answers to our questions about John Harrison, but until then, let the speculation continue on our forums.

Star Trek… Into Tears?

intodarknessThe newest to-be-released saga in the Trek realm has been quoted by its director to “.. make you cry”. But what does that mean for the story? Fortunately for us, the movie’s preview, which has just been released to the public, should help to solve that riddle just a bit, or will it?

Director J.J. Abrams has promised us another epic chapter in the Star Trek saga, featuring the younger, greener crew of the Enterprise. Some rather juicy tidbits about the movie have been releases, including a preview that is sure to wet some appetites. While the first movie encompasses James Kirk’s (Chrise Pine) rise to captaincy, Into Darkiness promises to highlight what it takes to keep that captaincy true, and what it means to be a member of Starfleet. We’ll get to meet some epic new villains, and carry our emotions to quite possibly a whole new level. “The goal of this movie is to make you cry. If the movie does its job, then by the end of the movie, you will have had a reaction involving the eyes,” Abrams states, and goes on to say “If the movie works, then there’s definitely an emotional component.”
