This is the first installment of ‘Our History, Our Times,’ a new series that examines Federation History and SB118’s place within that history. This historical news series will begin with the most recent history and make its way back to present major events and notable SB118 fleet actions. The first instalment deals with The Hobus Supernova, the fall of the Romulan Star Empire, the recent Klingon Invasion into Romulan space, and the political struggles within and between the Romulan, Klingon, and Ferderation powers.
Catastrophe Hits: 2387
In 2387, the Hobus Supernova threatened the galaxy. Ambassador Spock stopped the supernova by using red matter to create a black hole, which consumed the supernova. Before he could, however, the Hobus Supernova destroyed Romulus and Remus.
Service Ribbons are in-character awards presented to characters for acts of heroism and participation in plots and campaigns.
Ribbons can be received at any time, but are generally presented alongside crew promotions. It is not uncommon for all members of a crew to receive campaign ribbons.
These brave and honorable members of our group received them in October; please join us in congratulating them.
Spock and Senate feared dead on suicide mission to prevent armageddon
For the first time in weeks, a feeling of relief has washed across the Federation at warp speed. However, all it has given the Empire is time to grieve those billions lost.
The Hobus supernova has been contained by an artifical singularity. The gravity of the black hole is drawing the subspace shockwave into it, and will end its momentum in the Romulus sector as the largest such black star known this side of the Great Barrier.
++Breaking news: only 10% of Romulus evacuated so far++
Reports from early listening probes indicate that Hobus has gone nova, and will strike the Romulan home system faster than expected: in the next week, worse than many scientists had feared. The Federation Council has confirmed a vessel of classified specification has been sent to attempt to create a black hole and absorb the shockwave. However, it is believed that no vessel will make the journey in time to prevent the destruction of Romulus.
The location of the Senate and Romulan leadership is unknown at this time.
Federation-wide reports are expected to be interrupted by the subspace effects of the explosion. Please keep connected to your local planetary news service for possible evacuation orders.
Hobus star will go nova “at any moment” – Romulus to be evacuated
The sum of all fears has come to pass: a supernova in local space. The star Hobus, for centuries of recorded history, was a typical mainsequence star in Romulan space, with planets used only for mining. However, in the last few months, the star has transformed, through some unknown process, into the most dangerous object in known space, fuelling fear across the Empire and beyond.
