UFOP: SB118 launches Federation News Service!

We’re excited to announce that we’ve launched the Federation News Service onto its own website, as a semi-independent In Character news source, the goal of which is create a Star Trek metaverse and build collaboration between simming groups.

Check out the new Federation News Service on its new site: https://fns.news

While the FNS has been a team in our community for a while now, helping to jazz-up our monthly ship reports and add background stories about our In Character universe, this new development continues our efforts to position ourselves as simming community leaders by open these stories to other organizations.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to submit a story for FNS via the website, allowing other communities to add their own content to the site, while also using the content already on the site for their organization. This kind of content sharing will begin to create a shared Star Trek universe.

Check out the FNS website today, and look for an interview later this month with our FNS editor-in-chief Roshanara Rahman!

Starfleet prepares fleetwide response to “greatest threat to the quadrant since the Dominion War”

EARTH — Following the discovery of massive rifts in subspace, Starfleet is mobilizing an immediate and large-scale response as countless Federation citizens’ lives are in danger.

Ships from across the fleet will be joining in the response to find a way to stop the rifts and protect those in the path of destruction. In a press conference from Starfleet headquarters in San Francisco, Fleet Admiral Tristan Wolf described the situation as the “greatest threat to the quadrant since the Dominion War,” and advised citizens that the crisis requires a response of almost the same magnitude.

“We are mobilizing all available resources to deal with this threat to Federation citizens,” he said. “I want to assure everyone that we will do everything in our power to ensure the safety of those in the path of these anomalies.”

The cause of the rifts is still under investigation, but anonymous sources have forwarded reports of a catastrophic accident aboard Prometheus Station in the Piktar System. The station is a research and development facility for the Starfleet Sciences and Technology Division and houses over one thousand scientists and personnel.

The Prometheus Incident is our Fleetwide Plot Arc for 2015 – a year-long backdrop with special missions and even live events. If you think of missions as episodes of a television series, the FWPA would be an arc that spans the entire season.

Some ships will join in for certain missions at different times, and everyone can take part in building the shared story of the event on our wiki and the forums.

FNN Update: Freighter Crisis on 118

On Federation Starbase 118, in the Trinity sector, at the crossroads of Klingon, Federation, and Romulan territories, a crisis has arisen that could cost thousands of lives.

An independent freighter has docked with the base for emergency repairs. The freighter, laden with medical supplies for a needy colony, was unable to complete the journey, and the Starfleet crew was more than happy to help them get repaired and underway.

A common enough situation for the 118 crew. But the situation has turned out to be far more complicated, and dangerous, than anyone could have predicted.

After an explosion rocked the vessel, and Starfleet crew entered to provide emergency relief, it was discovered that the medical supplies on board were Vitlali 7, an unapproved medication which cannot be bought or sold within Federation territory due to the fact that the medicine degrades over time into a dangerous intoxicant.

The crew of the freighter, a rough bunch, meanwhile have fallen into conflict bordering on mutiny. During the altercation, among accusations of theft and sabatoge, it was revealed that the medication is indeed beyond its expiry date.

Meanwhile, a small fleet of warships has decloaked outside the base, demanding the freighter’s cargo.

We will have updates as events proceed.

FNN Update: Nequencia Colony Falls to Klingon Fleet

Starbase 118, Trinity Sector (Stardate 238908.20) – The Nequencia and Khitomer Systems have fallen to the Klingons, along with areas located near Tranome Sar.

According to confirmed reports from Romulan space, the Nequencia system – recently part of the Thracian Alliance – as well as the contested system of Khitomer, have fallen to the advancing Klingon fleet who has now turned their attention to other colonies and outlying systems in the area. Estimates of casualties are still being calculated, but what images have escaped the inhabited planets of the system show the brutality of the attacks.

Federation representatives have made multiple attempts to bring the Klingons to the table, but a message from the Klingon High Command has stated that the Federation has no jurisdiction over the matter, and it is strictly between the Klingon and Romulan Empires.

Meanwhile, Starfleet has started sending ships in the general direction of Starbase 118 where fighting between the two Empires has broken out, but until official aid is requested, ships must remain outside of the Neutral Zone.

FNN will have more on this breaking story as soon as it is available.
