Animals are no strangers to space. Before man orbited the earth or set foot on the moon, those of the four legged variety have braved the new frontier. Scientists were concerned about the effects of macro and micro gravity on biological functions so used animals to ‘test the waters’, so to speak, before daring to send up a homo sapien. You won’t see animals making the trek up to space so much any longer – or will you?
::The music begins and the blackness fades into colour. A galaxy
splashes across behind the two people seated in chairs. The colours
have changed, one red, the other blue with Danice seated in the crimson
chair. Her eyes stay forward as the scene comes into full focus and her
chin lifts just before she speaks.::
DANICA: Good evening and welcome to Stardate Now! – I’m your host,
Space, the final frontier.
These are the words that have opened up most of the episodes of the various Star Trek incarnations as well as the movies. These words have meaning not only within the Star Trek Universe itself, but also within our own reality.
Say ‘hello’ to Voyager 1.
The history of the world, though short in comparison to the history of the universe itself, is rife with love and romance, wars and battles. Kingdoms have been formed and have fallen. Men and women alike have made their mark, their names passed down from generation to generation, never to be forgotten for either their deeds or misdeeds.
Star Trek, too, has its own history.
Star Trek is no foreigner when it comes to weddings. In the original series, Robert Tomlinson married Angela Martine – well, almost.
::Music plays and the dark screen brightens to review a well lit room decorated with orange and yellow furniture. A backdrop of stars and galaxies stretch across the wall behind the two people who sit in the two chairs – a female in the orange chair and a man in the yellow one. Both of them sit facing the screen. The woman, tall with dark hair cropped to her shoulders smiles, her lips painted red and and a wispy dress of blue covering her frame.::
