Update on Drever IV crop sickness on Drever II

PAOIKE COLONY — The crew of the USS Constitution NCC-9012-B has made a significant breakthrough in addressing the crop sickness that has plagued Paokie Colony on Drever IV.

The root cause of the crop damage was identified as high levels of the pesticide Dicambafurlyoxyfe, inadvertently introduced into the colony’s agricultural system. This chemical, used in cargo bay decontamination, spread through the colony’s mycorrhizal network. Additionally, radioactive components from an old power plant aggravated the situation. These issues arose after the colony began using a new shipping company, Deep Rockets Delivery.

To resolve the problem, the USS Constitution-B crew introduced saline water into the irrigation system. The positive charge of sodium in the saline solution bound to the negatively charged pesticide, flushing it out of the plant system. This method successfully subdued the fungal growth, allowing the crops to recover. The crops are now gradually returning to a healthy state, providing considerable relief to the colony, which had considered evacuation.

A similar saline solution was used to treat inhabitants affected by the chemical through their food. The most affected was 10-year-old N’Veri, a Kameryan child, along with their parent and about a dozen others showing signs of pesticide poisoning. All were treated immediately and are now recovering.

Deep Rockets Delivery, the shipping company responsible for the pesticide introduction, issued an official apology:

“We recently became aware that our decontamination method inadvertently caused inconvenience to one of our esteemed clients. We sincerely apologize for any distress this may have caused. Please be assured that we are actively investigating and implementing enhanced decontamination techniques to ensure the highest standards of safety and well-being for all our customers. Your trust is paramount to us, and we are dedicated to maintaining it through continuous improvement.”

Starfleet Command has confirmed the mission’s success.

Future investigations are planned to ensure the solution does not have any other environmental ramifications on Paokie Colony and to monitor the long-term health and sustainability of the crops.
