NURIOOTPA SOLAR NEBULA – While Amity Outpost repairs are complete, Starfleet deals with the repercussions of Changeling infiltration at its highest levels and the loss of many crew—which may impact Amity operations.
The numbers and makeup of Starfleet’s crew, both new and experienced, have been greatly affected by the events of Frontier Day in Sector 001. Many are questioning the procedural failures that allowed high-ranking Starfleet officers to be replaced with Changeling replicas, prompting a full Starfleet review.
However, the review’s outcomes may not come quickly enough for Amity Outpost. While Amity is now fully repaired after sabotage destroyed its communications infrastructure, the FNS understands there are concerns within both Starfleet and the Federation Diplomatic Corps regarding supply chains and the rotation of crew from other parts of Federation space to ensure smooth operations at the far-flung outpost. Many residents, mostly native to the Delta Quadrant, have not yet returned to Amity, and questions linger as to whether they ever will.
Some residents have stayed, highlighting their faith in the Federation’s relatively new, albeit small, presence in the Delta Quadrant.
“Those that have fled Amity aren’t looking at the bigger picture,” said Zemoxis, a Talaxian assistant at the upmarket bar Three Stripes. “The Federation were attacked by the Borg and managed not only to fend them off but to weaken them further—possibly for good. This should be a moment of muted celebration and the beginning of a new dawn for everyone in the Delta Quadrant. We all know what trauma the Borg has caused our people in the past.”
But not everyone agrees. The Federation’s presence in the Barossa Nebula is still a newly contentious issue for many, causing divisions even amongst families. Zemoxis’ own partner, Yexnix, holds a very different opinion.
“They’re only here for the Benamite, and others I’ve spoken to agree that their presence has caused nothing but drama. When Ambassador Vataix invited Vidiians and Hirogen to Amity, that raised a lot of eyebrows. Peaceful relations, but at what cost? Letting your guard down? No wonder the Borg saw the opportunity they did!”
When pressed, Yexnix revealed that the only reason he stays is for Zemoxis, whom he is currently trying to convince to join the growing Talaxian population on the nearby Betazoid colony world, Idrustix II.
Envoy Keehani Ukinix, Chief of Staff for the Federation Diplomatic Corps, who are the ultimate operators of Amity, issued a general statement when questioned about the absence of many residents:
“The Federation wishes to assure local Delta Quadrant populations that Amity is back, it is safer than ever, and any perceived challenges regarding the day-to-day operations have been exaggerated. There are many benefits to living on Amity, such as our beautiful Peace Park and the fantastic shopping Mezzanine, along with the protection of Starfleet.”
However, the fallout of Frontier Day does not appear to be subsiding any time soon. Many Starfleet officers remain on leave, and it is understood that Ambassador Vataix, in her role as Commanding Officer of the Starfleet officers on Amity, has taken her senior crew to an undisclosed, unpopulated planet for a team-building exercise in her perceived effort to restore normal operations.
Only time will tell if Amity can regain the popularity and reputation it held before Frontier Day.
