DEEP SPACE NINE — After surviving the battle of Deep Space 33, the crew of the USS Khitomer retire to Deep Space 9, but not all find relaxation.
With the Khitomer and the USS Ronin disabled and towed to DS9 for repair and refit, the ships’ crews disembark for a wide array of activities, some questionable. The newcomers to the former Cardassian mining station received an authentic interstellar welcome, as junior officers became embroiled in a brawl on the promenade.
“If you scare the dog again, I’ll bite you,” a deranged ensign was heard to scream at station security. Bajoran authorities declined to comment on the incident.
Meanwhile senior officers engaged in less destructive (if no less questionable) conduct. LtCmdr. Connor Dewitt, Khitomer’s Chief Engineer, and LtCmdr. Talia Ohnari, her Chief Medical Officer, were spied in Quark’s Bar, taking full advantage of the station’s offerings.
“Mushroom doctor!” was one of the last coherent exclamations heard out of Dr. Ohnari.
Others pursued more somber tasks. Lt. Zenno, Chief of Khitomer Security, fought on Deep Space 33. In a guerilla flanking action, he and his marine support navigated the bowels of the station. In the wake of the chaos, he presented a stark reminder of what was lost.
“I wish to inquire about a refugee child named Sabira and her companion Mister Quirkle-Birkle,” Zenno explained to a Federation Refugee Services representative. “They were displaced from Deep Space 33 after the recent invasion.”
As of this writing, a request by FNS for records relating to the whereabouts of either Sabira or Quirkle-Birkle has gone unanswered.
