STARBASE 118 – Ops crew return to base for shore leave after an unexpectedly long absence.
The crew of StarBase 118 Ops have finally returned home after what has been a much longer than expected absence.
Initially, the crew had left on a mission of mercy, having received a distress call from the colony of Miri IVa, which was struggling to bring an invasive, aggressive plant under control.
Having helped the colonists to reverse the plant’s growth, as well as providing a cure for the ill effects the plant was having on the colony’s population, the crew left Miri IVa and were on their way back to StarBase 118 on board the USS Narendra (NCC-26596), when they received orders to report to Sector 001 to take part in the Frontier Day celebrations.
After an epic, but costly, battle with the assimilated USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-F) and with the attack on Earth Spacedock finally thwarted, it was time to head back to base for some well-earned recuperation.
The events of Frontier Day have inevitably taken their toll on the crew in different ways, with some officers choosing to switch off entirely and enjoy their shore leave to the fullest, while others have thrown themselves back into their work in an effort to keep their troubled minds busy.
“There was work to be done and there is still work to do,” explained Vulcan Security Officer Ens. T’Reyna. “The concept of shore leave is still alien to me and, it is my belief, better for my well being to continue working.”
Elsewhere on the base, there has been plenty of activity, with some of the crew moving to new apartments, some participating in an impromptu team game of velocity and of course, the usual meetings for breakfast, lunch and dinner at the various restaurants, cafés and bars that StarBase 118 has to offer.
However, not all of the crew opted to hurry back to the base after their successful battle with the Enterprise-F.
One group of officers decided to pay a visit to Earth, stopping off at the Lucky Casino to unwind after their shared traumatic experience, with Lts. Madison Marsh, Corey Wethern and Evan Ross playing a few hands of poker, as well as consuming a few rounds of alcohol, before heading back to the Narendra.
Meanwhile, an unlucky Lt. JG Korras, who had intended to attend a martial arts tournament somewhere in the vicinity of Deep Space 33, found himself caught up in some of the fallout of the Frontier Day attack.
While stopping off at the station, the Klingon Ops Officer joined up with the crew of the USS Ronin (NCC-34523) to repel an opportunistic attack from the so-called Lattice Alliance, made up of Tholian and Sheliak forces.
“I was staying there as a stopover, and the station was attacked by the Lattice Alliance. I joined the fight, along with crew from the Ronin,” said Korras. “The Alliance forces detonated a quantum torpedo inside the station as a last ditch effort to destroy the station after the Excalibur showed up. They were almost successful.”
With the emergence of this new threat, the crew of Ops, as all of Starfleet, will have to be on their guard, however, for now, they continue to enjoy their much needed rest and prepare for a very welcome party and celebration at the crew awards ceremony.
