DENALI STATION — After the trials of their last mission, the crew of Denali Station took time out to enjoy some hard-earned shore leave. Despite being on downtime, they found plenty of ways to keep themselves busy.
Commodore Oddas Aria invited the XO, Tomas Falt, and the second officer, Commander Alora DeVeau, to her quarters for a quiet dinner party. It was their first time together socially as a command group, and the three officers took the time to get to know each other better over Gateau Breton and cheesecake.
Elsewhere, Doctor Alix Harford arranged a hike on the outskirts of Denali, inviting Lieutenants Drex and Forsyth, along with Ensign McGillian, to join her. They encountered giant turtles that were not aggressive but also weren’t picked up on scans. They would have had a relaxing time were it not for Alix, who almost drowned and scared her crewmates.
Back at the station, a freak construction accident seriously injured two builders. They were transported to the clinic where Doctors Vahin and Harford stitched them back together with the assistance of Ensigns McGillian and Strathmore.
A short time later, it was discovered that two crew members from the Juneau mission, Drex and Sanchez, still contained traces of rogue DNA from the alien glowworms they had encountered. As they were the only ones who established communication with the aliens, the working theory was that the DNA acted as a link that allowed the worms to share consciousness with the two humanoids. Harford successfully removed the DNA from Drex using nanosurgeons.
Following this discovery, Strathmore and Harford designed an experiment to recreate the shared dream experience that Kendrick, Drex, and Harford were thrust into on the Juneau. The research is ongoing and will be completed next shore leave.
While this experiment was ongoing, other research was being undertaken by Lieutenants Drex, Xiron, and Parvana in the general biology labs, where they worked on an android discovered during a previous mission. Their work focused on communicating with it more effectively, and their research will continue during the next shore leave.
Shore leave concluded with the traditional awards ceremony, this time held in a downtown park area. Notably, it was attended by two infants, Commander Kendrick’s son, Christopher, and Commander DeVeau’s newborn daughter, Shyla. Awards and accolades were handed out, and there were well-deserved promotions for Strathmore to Lieutenant JG, Drex to full Lieutenant, and Kettick to Lieutenant Commander.
With the festivities concluded, the crew is now looking forward to the next mission.
