VARIOUS PORTS, GAMMA QUADRANT – Crew seeks rest and recovery, finds trouble, opportunities
Following the recovery of the Unity Dow, the USS Octavia E. Butler (OEB) has continued to leave an indelible mark on Gamma Quadrant over the last month as they visited the I-Kiyo Dyson Ring, Port Coray, and finally Deep Space 14. While shore leave at these stations have been enjoyed by most, the time has not passed without controversy.
As a number recovered from radiation poisoning, the crew made ‘official first contact’ with the I-Kiyoans, a people that live on a dyson ring. Many took the opportunity to meet the I-Kiyo people, forming tentative trade contracts. An engineering staff also beamed down to the ring with tools in hand, but officials have declined to comment, only releasing a vague statement saying it was a cultural exchange of knowledge.
With a successful stop under their belts, the OEB moved on to Port Coray. There, Lt. Lhandon Nilsen, was placed on trial, accused of murdering a local Wadi shopkeeper, but was eventually proven innocent. According to scuttlebut on the waystation, the hapless officer was framed by an unknown group objecting to the presence of the Federation in the Gamma Quadrant.
A much safer berth was Deep Space 14 (DS14), Starfleet’s first permanent presence in the quadrant. Reports of the science and medical team’s visit mention venomous plants and a dragonet making an appearance. Additionally, a rogue feline seems to have adopted the corridors of the ship. Rumors regarding lower deckers getting “up to something,” and planning pranks on senior staff could not be substantiated.
Lia Rouiancet, the commander of the Gamma Quadrant Exploratory Flotilla flagship, has now formally received the rank of Captain. Fellow captain, Bridget Fletcher opined, “It’s always a grand time when someone gets promoted. Especially the party afterward!”
Speaking of promotions, in an awards ceremony in the Solar Sail Observation lounge of DS14, the newly minted Captain announced a number of crew recognitions. Notably the exonerated Lhandon Nilsen and Karen Strendhal were promoted to full Lieutenant. Qurgh’Loq Yinn, one being in two bodies, was promoted to Lieutenant, Junior Grade, and Lt. Anton Richards was installed as acting Chief of Security. A trio of new ensigns were also singled out for an impressive number of award ribbons.
First Officer Avander Promontory had this to say, “We’re proud of our crew, all our officers have been serving with dedication through quite extreme circumstances. I want to give a special acknowledgement for our Department Chiefs, who are really the backbone of our ship.”
