28 Starfleet officers including Amity’s First Officer dead, Stability of Delta Quadrant threatened

NURIOOTPA SOLAR NEBULA – Amity Outpost’s main auxiliary craft, the Defiant class USS Independence-B, was destroyed today by Alpha Hirogen “Ravarj”, leader of a faction of Hirogen tribes who oppose treaties with the Federation.

Ambassador Niarivi “Rivi” Vataix has suffered a significant setback in her aims to sign a treaty with multiple Hirogen tribes in the Delta Quadrant. During diplomatic negotiations on board the USS-Independence-B, the Starfleet loaned FDC vessel was destroyed in a surprise attack by a Trenvonn ship. It’s understood the attack was carried out by known Hirogen Alpha agitator Ravarj, who has consistently rejected any sort of agreement with the Federation. How Ravarj obtained the vessel, fitted with a cloak and belonging to the technocratic isolationist Trenvonn species, is unknown.

While most of the Independence-B’s crew managed to escape, some with critical injuries, Twenty-eight Starfleet officers died in the attack which includes Amity’s First Officer, Commander Wil Ukinix. Many of the Hirogen that were present for talks in the FDC assigned vessel are assumed to have perished, which is likely to begin a war between Hirogen tribes, threatening the stability of the Delta Quadrant.

In a rare statement from Ambassador Vataix, she reiterated that the Federation remains “committed to forging a lasting peace with the Hirogen tribes that seek the benefits of mutual respect and cooperation.”

The events are sure to erode trust in the Federation by the Kathesis Pact, a nearby interplanetary alliance state of species located in the Eakarian Expanse. Vataix countered by stating that the Federation Diplomatic Corps have “reached out to our Kathesis Pact counterparts as well, who have expressed their condolences on the loss of life.”

“We are monitoring developments and Ambassador Vataix’s actions very closely,” was the only statement made by a Kathesis Pact spokesperson after subsequent questions were put to them by the FNS.

The tragedy and its aftereffects will present a challenge for the Ambassador and the FDC, who must now respond diplomatically to the events in the wake of a senior officer’s death. “I do not want the memory of Commander Wil Ukinix to be lost. Wil gave his life for the Federation and the dream it represents, and that is what we will continue to do out here in the Delta Quadrant and beyond.”

The loss of Commander Ukinix has enforced changes upon Amity’s Starfleet contingent. Chief Science Officer, Lieutenant Commander Robin Hopper, has assumed the role of First Officer and Starfleet attaché. “We’ve had to increase our security measures and bring in additional support vessels to protect our little corner of space,” remarked Hopper in a late statement. “We remain dedicated to supporting a peaceful and diplomatic solution, but we’ll do what we have to in defense of Federation citizens.”
