Revised Script Format Begins November 1, 2019

Attention all hands!
This past July, we announced that the fleet would begin a process towards dropping the use of double colons before narrative text unless it is for actions written within dialogue (“in-line actions”). You can read more about why we are making this change in our previous announcement. Essentially, instead of formatting your narrative text like this:

::Crewman Taz Shandres cautiously stepped into the eerie confines of the freighter’s engine room.::

Shandres: ::taking deep breaths:: oO It’s so dark in here. You can hardly see anything! Oo

::As Taz walked through the area, though, she saw a diagnostic panel. Its display was dimmed but still showing signs of life.::

Shandres: Hey! ::looks back over her shoulder:: I found something, sir!

You would write it as simply:

Crewman Taz Shandres cautiously stepped into the eerie confines of the freighter’s engine room.

Shandres: ::taking deep breaths:: oO It’s so dark in here. You can hardly see anything! Oo

As Taz walked through the area, though, she saw a diagnostic panel. Its display was dimmed but still showing signs of life.

Shandres: Hey! ::looks back over her shoulder:: I found something, sir!

Four ships in the fleet have already been simming in the new format for the last few months.
Today, we are announcing that the fleet as a whole will be moving to the new standard on Friday, November 1, 2019.
Your captain and first officer will be able to help guide you through the transition if you have any questions. Again, the heart of the change is simply removing the double colons from narrative text unless it is for in-line actions written in dialogue. With this change, we hope to make our simming format more accessible for both new members and those who may read your sims outside of your daily simming, such as in general RPG simming contests, writing workshops, and other venues where the wonderful writing of our community is showcased.
If you have any questions about the format changes, let us know in this forum thread!
