USS Eagle encounters new species during relaunch

AAVARO WILDS – USS Eagle, under the fresh command of Commander Oddas Aria, has been dispatched into the unchartered Aavaro Wilds as the Cardassian Government retire from the area, encountering a new species and establishing first contact.
The USS Eagle, a storied vessel in Starfleet’s armada, was recently relaunched with a new crew and new mission. Commander Oddas Aria, previously assigned to the Embassy on Duronis II under Rear Admiral Toni Turner, has been installed as Captain of the Eagle, with Lieutenant Commander Delan Han, also previously of the Embassy to assigned to be the ships Executive Officer. The experienced Senior staff has been assembled from the USS Columbia and the USS Constitution-B along with two top Academy graduates to complete the team.
Launched from Starbase 821, the Eagle has been tasked with patrolling the Aavaro Wilds – a region of space that had, up until recently, been claimed by the Cardassian Union. With the new Cardassian Government pulling back to more conservative borders, the Federation feared the sudden power vacuum could destabilize the region neighbouring Federation worlds.
“To get a chance to relaunch a ship on a new mission into uncharted space is exactly what we dream of as cadets in the Academy,” Commander Han said when asked for comment on the new assignment.
We were also able to reach one of the newest additions to Starfleet, Ensign Kayla Drex who’s excitement at the assignment was obvious, “Oh this is going to be a lot of fun.”
The Eagle’s opening mission was a task to deploy a number of Federation subspace relays in the area to help improve communication within and between regions. However, more pressing issues forced the Eagle to deviate from its initial mission.
Upon arriving at the first system where a relay was to be stationed, the Eagle made First Contact with a previously unknown species in orbit above an M Class planet. The residents of the planet were a pre-warp species, similar to late 20th century Humans, struggling to combat a virus that defied even Starfleet’s medical experience.
After contact was established with the newly discovered resident of the Aavaro Wilds, the Mithgiln and their sentient living ships, the crew split into teams to determine what the cause of the plague was and to determine the intentions of the Mithgiln.
Early reports indicated that the virus responsible for the plague was artificial and potentially introduced from an external source. Commander Han brought an away team to the surface where evidence pointed to a crashed alien ship, while Ambassador Brayden Jorey took a team to the lead Mithgiln ship to learn more about the new, and expectedly friendly, species.
