We know how often the world can be a tough place and that sometimes when “life happens,” it can leave us feeling alone, in the dark, and helpless. During these most difficult times when life is difficult or frustrating, remember that what we have here is more than just a game. It’s “ohana.”
In Hawaiian that words means “family.” You may remember it as a central concept of the Disney movie “Lilo & Stitch,” about a destructive little alien who was adopted by a family here on Earth. But Ohana is about more than just blood relatives. It’s specifically about extended, adopted, and intended family.
While we’re not a bunch of cute and fluffy little blue creatures from another planet, running around blowing things up — well, okay, maybe we blow a lot of things up! — we still have a togetherness that transcends acquaintance.
There’s a thread that binds us together, giving us all something in common.
The vision Gene Roddenberry created inspires us to come together despite our differences, despite what’s happening in our real lives. That vision inspires us to that most consequential and human action: Gathering together to tell stories. We each have an individual story to tell, and those stories are best when told together, as part of this community.
So as we begin the new year, we wanted to remind everyone in the fleet about ohana. This community, a family – extended, unplanned, and intentional. Often unconventional!
Sincerely,
The Staff of UFOP: StarBase 118
