Lower Decks Interview: Lt JG Chelin Ch’Gabor, USS Constitution

We’re here with another interview with a newer member of our community. The title of this column is “Lower Decks,” hearkening back to the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode titled “Lower Decks,” in which junior officers aboard the Enterprise-D speculate on the reasons for recent unusual actions taken by the command crew near the Cardassian border.
This month’s interview is with the writer behind Lt JG Chelin Ch’Gabor playing a male Andorian Science Officer assigned to the USS Constitution-B.
Vondaryan: Tell us a little about the writer behind the character — where in the world do you hail from?
Ch’Gabor: Hello all! I’m Ammiel, and I come from the South-East Asian country of Malaysia, living around the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. I’m currently a student studying my IGCSEs. Been here all my (short) life!
Were you a Star Trek fan before joining UFOP: StarBase 118? If so, what were your favorite shows and/or movies?
Yes! While I am not the most familiar with all the series, I like TNG, as that was the series that reeled me in out of the pond into the bucket of Star Trek. Malaysia doesn’t broadcast any episodes of Star Trek whatever series, so I scout the net. Haven’t fetched the time to watch Enterprise, but it looks promising. Behind TNG would have to be DS9. Yay for a series on an installation.
My favourite movie is First Contact. The Borg+Time-travelling to the past? Yes please! I felt quite saddened at all the Enterprise crewmembers getting assimilated, lol.
Is this your first simming experience, or have you done other forms of role-playing before?
This is my absolute first experience. While my friends occasionally ask me to play D&D with them (which I turn down…often), I never really got into anything role-playing. That changed until I came here, of course. 😉
Funny story; I intended to join Bravo Fleet much earlier than SB118. I didn’t went through with it after I realised I needed to go through training. Well thankfully I didn’t think the same thing when I came across 118! 😀
What duty post are you playing, and how’d you choose it?
I am currently playing the Science post, and like it very much! In real life, I am often fascinated with science, and more specifically biology and anything related to plants; hence my character Chelin specialising in mostly ecology. I’m also very interested in astronomy and the stars…so I also had Chelin specialise in astronomy. During missions, it’s extremely fun to know almost everything science-related and seem to be like the know-it-all.
My PNPC Elitsa is in Medical, which also has a tinge of science-y in it. When I signed up, Medical was my second choice duty post and played my cadet cruise in that post.
What’s been your favorite part of being with the community so far?
I love everything about it, to be honest. From the wonderful people and its community, to the wiki, which often has interesting reads, that often help shape the way one sims. Another thing I like about being apart of this community are the characters.
I very much like to read on the wiki pages of the characters, and the way the writers develops their character are always an interesting read. The community here is also amazing, and I would say that the atmosphere here is wonderful!
Where would you like to be in a few years? Have a taste of command of your own? Or maybe planning on joining one of our OOC groups?
Where would I be in a (hopefully) few years? Perhaps having my character at a higher rank than now. I currently have no interest in commanding any ship what not, more because I am not very interested in that route. But if I do get the chance (for whatever reason, lol) of doing just that, I might just take it!
Speaking of OOC groups, I am already apart of one, that is the Featured Bio Contest. Other than that, I think I’d pause at the FBC, as life isn’t really that kind for me to join ALL of the groups at once lol. 🙂
Thanks for your time, Lt JG Ch’Gabor!
