Maintaining a Guild

While the purpose of guilds are to bring members with common interests together, a guild should also hope to be productive in some manner. Below are some guidelines for maintaining the "active" status of a guild.

Creating Materials

First and foremost, guilds should expect to produce some form of materials on a regular basis. Materials could consist (but is not limited to) of any of the following:

  • Articles ("How to SIM a...", "Notable...", etc.);
  • Newsletters (monthly, quarterly, etc.);
  • Journals (yearly);

Facilitators

Guilds must also have a Facilitator at all times. While the facilitator is not necessarily tasked with "organizing" the guild, he or she should intend to at least keep the guild moving in a positive and productive direction whenever possible. The Facilitator should also expect to answer any questions about the guild that may arise, and should act as the primary point of contact for the guild.

The guild may change facilitators at any time, in any way it so desires. Generally, the nomination of a member, followed by a simple count of "nay" votes, should suffice.

Roster

Guilds should keep a roster of members at all times. This should include the primary character names of each member, as well as the character for which is represented in the guild, if the primary and secondary are different. The roster should also include an e-mail address for each member.

This list should be updated on a regular basis via a roll call in the Guild Headquarters forum. A thread should be designated at the time of guild creation for this purpose at that location.


Beyond these simple requirements, a guild should simply attempt to fulfill it's purpose: bringing members with similar in character interest together. As such, any productive activity that maintains this contact is beneficial to the guild.
