The Training Team
We all remember our time in the Academy; our first steps within the fleet. Of course, those first steps could not be made without the Training Team, who provide leadership in that short first mission, teaching our new cadets the writing format and giving them a controlled environment in which to learn the basics. Ways to Publicize UFOP: StarBase 118 in your Hometown
In Sci-Fi/Comicbook Stores
Is your town one of the lucky few to have a comicbook or sci-fi store? If so then why not ask the proprietors how they would feel about you bringing in a poster to advertise SB118? Some shopkeepers are willing to give up some windowspace, a panel on a door, or even have a noticeboard on which websites and clubs can be displayed, usually without having to pay! In addition, don’t forget the SB118 Bookmarks that can be found in the files section on the website – not only do these advertise the site, but if you’re prepared to print them off onto the appropriate paper they can be handed out as freebies, which is much more likely to attract an entrepreneur’s attention! Who doesn’t like being able to offer free gifts?
Other Stores
There are many other shops in your town/city that either have a noticeboard for publicizing clubs or may be prepared to put up a flyer. If you know a store owner then you may find it easier to approach them, but it may be worth considering book stores that carry Star Trek literature, DVD stores that sell the TV series and films, as well as Charity Stores, who would be particularly receptive to the idea of being able to encourage people to buy books by offering them a free bookmark!
Word of Mouth
The easiest of all – do you know anyone who likes Star Trek? Then tell them all about the wonders of SB118. They’d be a fool not to join!
Your Own Home
Unless you live in a region of the world where you’re not free to display things in the window of your own home then you could always stick up a Starbase 118 flyer in your window – passersby are more than likely to notice, especially if you live on a main street. Please check that it is legal and safe to do this before taking action!
Your Place of Work
If the boss doesn’t mind, there’s probably going to be somewhere where you could slip that teeny little flier for people to see as they walk past. There’s nothing like piquing curiosity to attract attention!
