Vessel Command Information

USS Discovery-B

Since the 1600s, the name Discovery has been synonymous with adventure, exploration, and excellence. For over 700 years, ships carrying her name have written themselves boldly into the history books. The HMS Discovery, launched in the early 1600s, explored the supposed northern passage in North America under the command of Captain Henry Hudson near the area that still bears his name. With a proud history of wooden ships behind it, the name Discovery was far from retired. Along with her sister ships Enterprise, Columbia, and Challenger, the Discovery explored the reaches of space as a space shuttle. After the tragic destruction of both the Challenger in 1986 and the Columbia in 2004, the Discovery was selected to return mankind to space in the "Return To Flight" program. After a successful return the space, the orbiter continued to make history.

300 years later, the Akira-class USS Discovery and her successor the USS-Discovery-A burst onto the scene as a station ship for Starbase 118. Both ships met an early end, but only after fiercely defending their home from a terrorist attack and later a Romulan invasion. It was with little surprise that the Akira-class starship would not be the last ship to bear the name.

Carrying on that proud tradition is the Ronin-Class USS-Discovery-B, currently engaged in deep space exploration near the Romulan border. Like the crews of the original wooden vessels and all that followed, the crew and Captain have seen the fires of war, felt the warmth of friendship and peace, the wonder of exploration, and experienced the depths of loss. They are, by all aspects, a family, with a proud history and a bright future. What awaits the crew is unknown. What awaits the ship, is another rendevous with history.
