Welcome back POW fans.

This week we start a new bi-weekly series entitled "Nails on a chalk board". This series is going to be dedicated to discussing all those characters throughout the Trek series that we simply love to hate. Whether these characters are so repulsive, dull witted or simply annoying is for you too point out. This week we are starting off with a long list of characters from DS9.

While it has been said that a character's flaws are more important then its strengths in order to build a original and hearty character. I am sure we can all agree that there are times when characters are just to flawed and stick out, much further then might be intended! So this can also be a place to discuss features of character creation so that we can all improve our writing.

Finally let me thank Ensign Johanna MacLaren of Star Base 118 Ops for suggesting this great poll idea. Remember if you have a poll suggestion visit the suggestions thread.

Let the voting commence!

I always hated the Ferengi-centric episodes. Too much silliness!

Nails on a chaulk board characters for me was Deanna Troi, only because she wasn't developed as much as the others on TNG, the same for Beverly Crusher not as well developed.

Admiral Wof, I enjoyed the Farengi episodes, for the silliness. Espcially the "Magnificent Seven" like episode DS9.

I always found Sisko annoying, but not exactly in a bad way... Although all of the Sisko time travel or dimension hopping episodes used to rather annoy me... Still, on the whole Sisko was infinitely less annoying than any of the crew of the NX-01 Enterprise...

Dukat was extremely irritating...shooting him on sight would have been my protocol. Ferengi are just a plain nuisiance. A necessary one, perhaps but still.....after all, while the quadrant was embroiled in a fight for its survival, the Ferengi stayed out of it...that would have irritated me had I been the Federation President...

Dukat was annoying but to shoot a world's goverment offical would've bad. Then they'd have to contend with Cardassia too. Farengi are Farengi, although there are some good ones that are actively changing the culture hopefully for the good of them all. You know Rom is the Nagus now.;-) Nog is in Starfleet.

Hmmm tiptoeing around with my Ferenginess... (I promise not to steal anything form you or to sell you some useless financial product ;p).

The Character I dislike the most is 7of9 from what I used to call "The 7of9 Show" (also known as Voyager). I have always thought her sole use was to steal airtime from Janeway.

Kai Vedek Wynn was, undoubtedly, the most annoying character on any ST series to me. As Bajoran high priestess, she gave new parameters to the meaings of self-righteous and bossy. I always wanted to see some one slap her.

I *completely* agree that someone needed to slap her!

Oh God yes. Great shout on Kai Wynn. She was by far the most annoying character on DS9 (even more so than Jake Sisko, who I voted for). What made matters worse was that removing the Vedek from her name, she was just an 'n' away from sounding like my girlfriend's name at the time (Ceinwynn). The two could not have been more different. Dukat was never annoying, in a nails-on-chalkboard way. He was just a bad guy. Bad guys are supposed to be annoying to an extent. To use a wrestling term, they need to get heat. Sometimes they get the wrong 'sort' of heat (referred to in wrestling as "X-Pac heat") where viewers stop hating them because they're evil, and just want them to go away and stop being on their TV screens. Wynn achieved this very quickly.

To be honest, Kira had her moments too. But she also had moments where she was a really awesome character.

Ben Sisko was never really 'annoying' per se. Badly acted at times, yes. Posted Image But the character itself wasn't too bad in my opinion.

Odo and Quark don't even belong in the poll. <3 Amazing characters.

Edit: I just remembered another character than I hated for the wrong reasons (especially as I was supposed to like and empathise with her!), but I can't really explain why. O'Brien's wife, Keiko. Just... annoying.

Winn and Keiko i didn't like. Louise Fletcher did Winn so well,i wanted to smack that character to the Prophets myself. Keiko was just rude, self righteous too. Didn't respect another culture, which ticked me off.

Keiko could be very annoying true! It's just that everyone seemed loveable relative to Kai Wynn. (Maybe it was a left over from playing Nurse Rachet in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest)

Keiko was always annoying, it's true. She was always so needy!

From the list, though, I've gone for Worf. He's always annoyed me in both TNG and DS9.

Agreed! I hated the requisite "Miiiiiiiiles..." in every episode she appeared.

Keiko was indeed annoying. Locking her in waste extraction would have done wonders for her....

Right you are, but Kai Wynn would, undoubtedly, have given a long lecture on why the Prophets would forbid any such punitive action against Kira, who would, of course, have been whining.

Thank you for your supportive words T'Mihn :) I didn't know you were aware of my antics (or did I mean antiques?). I swear I try to be discreet...

Re Kai Wynn. To see her name mentioned brought back souvenirs. My partner absolutely hate her. It's so bad it's visceral. It's true that as a villain, actress Louise Fletcher does an excellent job. But then she already knew how to get on people's nerves with her role as Nurse Ratchett (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) ^^ Even Dr Pulaski was mild in comparison ^^.
