Greetings POWers,

This week's poll takes on a serious/sentimental aspect. As many of us celebrate Remembrance Sunday, we'd like to ask if you have any family or friends who have served for their country, and to get you to tell us something about them (as much or as little as you like). Maybe you've served in the armed forces yourself, in which case feel free to let us know anything that you think we should.

Obviously it's up to you just how much you'd like to share with everyone. I always like to think of Remembrance Sunday as a chance to be grateful to those who keep us safe in our day to day lives. We'd love to hear anything that you'd like to tell us, and about the people you remember on this day. Posted Image

Both of my grandfathers served during WWII and a great grandfather in WWI. On my father's side as a member of the Canadian Army Medical Corps, and on my mother's side as a early recruit of Her (His, at the time) Majesty's SAS. My maternal great grandfather served in WWI, and a picture of his unit is actually on display in the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, England.

There are others in my family who served, but those are the three who's stories I am familiar with.

My Grandfathers were both involved in WW2. I don't know a great deal about either but I know my maternal grandfather was part of the BEF which was evacuated from Dunkirk - so had he not been rescued I might not be here today!

My brother-in-law was until recently in the RAF

Both my grandfathers were in WWII, and both were on the beaches during the D-Day landings. I can't imagine what it must have been like. I didn't ask them enough about the war before they passed away, but I do know that one of them managed to end up in Curacao for a little while (and didn't like guavas!).

My Grandfather served in the English Army and I know his father did too. Not sure if they were in WWII though. My great uncle was in a solider in WWII and became a prisoner to the Japanese. Luckily all came out good for him and he lived a long happily life.
My Father is currently a member of the Irish Army and atm were waiting to see if he is being shipped off next year, he has been over to the Lebanon and Iraq a few times as part of the bomb squad, training and all that for peace keeping missions with the United Nations :)
I couldn't be any more proud of any of them!

Both grandfathers, and father. Unknown if the great-grandfathers served. Air Force,Navy and Army are represented. I've no data on what my AF grandpa did,or my Army father. I know of only my Naval grandfather. He served in the south Pacific as a part of a USDB a naval vessel that was a sea bound, movable dry dock to repair vessels. It was his only posting and once home; never wished to be on a sea vessel again. I cannot serve as my vision isn't correctable enough for military parameters. Their loss. :)

I spent 12 years in the Canadian Army as a Combat Engineer. First in, Last out. That is our motto. The years I spent with the 2nd Field Engineer Regt. were unforgettable.
