Got a good tip for those interested in photo manipulation? What about a question for The Collective members? Post here to discuss all things related to photo manipulation.

I like the alien skin effect in the color options part of the program GIMP?

Is that what you mean?

Important tip when doing bio images: don't forget the neck. The neck length is always the most obvious problem when putting someone's head on another body -- it's really obvious when it's too long and it's really obvious when it's too short.

For example, in this TOS-era image I did of Whale, I made the neck too short. Makes him look... gorilla-like.

Hey everyone, I need some help!

I have a Haliian Marine on Starbase 118 that needs some ridges above his eyes. Is anyone up for giving this a go?

You can find the base image here: http://www.wiki.star...=File:Durch.jpg

Thanks!

Hey everyone,

I was just checking in to see how many of us were still active. I know that some of our members have gone on LOA's recently, which makes it quiet around here. So, who's still around, and what have you been up to on the graphics front?

Sadly nothing of note. Rogg could really use a headshot or two - the one detail lacking from my dazzling (IMHO) wiki page is that there are no photos to sell the story. Turns out that drawing a lizardman Engineer is hard. Who knew?

The last image-related thing I did was drag out the old laptop to re-size JPGs for a friend's grant submission. (sad head-shaking)

I'd like to relearn how to create aliens out of base humanoid pictures. I used to do digital manipulation with photographs but am out of practice as I couldn't afford PhotoShop or other paid programs.

I believe some of our members use GIMP, and it's free. Maybe you could try using that to get back into things?

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask!

Thank you, I definitely will. I recently heard of GIMP, it looks to be highly acceptable. Thank you again.

If you get GIMP or something similar we have some tutorials on the (image) collective wiki that might help you, and as has been said we're always happy to help if you have specific questions. :)

Hey Forums People! (yep, I'm talking to YOU!)

The Image Collective, Starbase 118's very own Image Team, is always looking for new members. You don't have to be fluent with Photoshop, Gimp, or any other photo manipulation programs, but you do have to be willing to lend us your creative thoughts! Give us your input on designs, tell us your own ideas and let one of our photoshop guru's build them into visual designs, or just share your thoughts on new and different images we can use around the site. =)

Sound like something you want to do? Let the Collective assimilate you today, just contact me and the rest will follow!

***We now return you to your regularly scheduled forums banter!***

:D

Hey all! Looks like Adobe is giving us a late holiday gift - a completely free, legitimate copy of PS CS2. It's not the latest and greatest, but it is free and it is PS. =)

Check out the story, and get the link to the download here: http://gizmodo.com/5...free-right-here

Keep in mind that the site is getting literally hammered right now, so it is working only intermittently, but if you're patient, you will be able to get in on this deal.

Does anyone have the slightest idea how to make Andorians? This wouldn't necessarily just apply to andorians, as the techniques used to make andorians could be applied to any other alien race but the question still remains.

While I do much prefer the actual quality of the sims here at SB118, one thing that bravofleet had going for them was a huge team of talented photoshop artists.

http://challenger.ju...m/missions.html that page there shows 3 mission graphics that were designed, on to right of the top graphic we can see Tom Hanks sporting a Denobulan face and on the bottom most graphic, we see Meryl Streep as an Andorian.

Here is another example that I found from a ship which was part of Independence fleet.

Thanks in advance

I dare say we have a pretty talented team ourselves here...we've not met with a task that we couldn't complete, including an Efrosian...

At any rate, both your Hanks and Streep images are overlays of the character's face (like what was done for Sinda Essen - http://wiki.starbase...SindaEssen1.jpg) and aren't that difficult if you can find the right images.

As far as an Andorian, I suppose it would be much like coloring hair, only with skin. There's a few ways to do it, either by pulling the skin out and tinting it, then overlaying the antennae, or creating a new layer with the color and fading it to the desired color, and then overlaying the top half of a face that is an Andorian facing the same direction.

I've made a few Andorians before, it's pretty much as you just described Kali.

I have made an Andorian Female, but it was hard trying to match the skin colours to the Andorian Part that was being attached.

Below is my first and only attempt at one I have never done another since.
