[Nathan Baker]

James Doohan, Star Trek's Montgeomery "Scotty" Scott, was pronounced dead this morning (7/20/05) at 5:30 Pacific Daylight Time. He was 85 and had been suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of such a legend. Scotty was the reason I became an Engineer in the UFOP. The Star Trek universe owes much of it's success and fame to Mr. Doohan.

My thoughts go out to his family.

It is reported that Doohan's remains will be launched into space, the same way Gene Roddenberry's were in 1991. This is fitting I think, for he will truly be going where no man has gone before.

And, if I may; one last time for posterity: "Beam me up, Scotty"

My prayers also go out to his family. Let us remember him as he was alive ... a brilliant Starfleet Engineer, a brilliant actor, and a role model for so many.

We could always trust Scotty to do the impossible ... so let's not count him out just yet. One last command, James ... "Warp Speed."

I only heard this morning (21st July, British time), and was deeply saddened by the news.

I just finished reading the SCE book of the Da Vinci and Scotty was the Engineering Liaison.

He was one of my favorite in the original Star Trek and he was also the reason I wanted Seph 647 to be an Engineer.

Rest In Peace, Scotty!!
