I think we should have "How to SIM a Counselor" and some kind of "Coures in Psychology/Psychiatry at Starfleet Academy"...like the Starfleet Corp of Engineers Duty Post area... What do y'all think?

I can pull the StarFleet courses fairly easily. No problems there. However, we do need someone to write a good "How to SIM..." article :)

Okay...so who wants to do a "How to SIM a Counselor" or "Ask the Counselor" column/article?

((YAY! This is my 40th post!))

I haven't gotten a chance to do it yet Joran. I've been sick and I've had some problems to deal with. But I will try to do something as soon as I can.

Alright, so I'm not a Counselor, but I do do site building occasionally... ;)

and some kind of "Coures in Psychology/Psychiatry at Starfleet Academy"...like the Starfleet Corp of Engineers Duty Post area...

As far as the Engineering Courses went, I found it useful to start with the "Academy" courses listed on the UFoP site, and then I went to the MIT website and perused their course catalog and took whatever looked good from there.

BYU, UCLA, Harvard and many other schools have good Psychology programs. Just use the course titles that look interesting.

As for the "How to Sim..." I just copied the medical article and filled in the headings with Engineering stuff. The format is useful and quite comprehensive.

The original courses for Engineering came from this "ancient" source:

http://www.starbase1...rses_layout.htm

Does that help any?

Sorry boss...

But I should get kudos for putting the word ancient in little quote marks...

lol some threads then to go in and out of fashion and by you replying to this one will temporarily bring it back into fashion lol.

In response to your other question, my character keeps having random flashbacks that force him to try to figure out what they mean, he's getting help for it from his counsellors, basically trying to figure out if they are real or made up, as well as the usual sociophobia and what not. :).

Not really interesting but it makes for an action based plot i think :D

I may or may not become a Counselor in the Sim but I am currently training to be a psychologist, so I can offer how real counselors do their job and some insite into the science of it which anyone can take or not. Most of the counseling characters on this site are either empaths or telepaths so that also offers a level of insite which isn't available in the real world. I would write a summary of the science of psychology but it would probably take months.

So does anyone have any particular questions?

Howdy,

I went against type and ran my counselor as a Bajoran monk.

I think one thing we over look in the game is the stress that being on a ship in space for months and years at a time seperated from family, friends, and even culture would place on a person.

It isn't so much a questions, and an observation I invite others to comment on.

I would agree, though much of the pressure felt by individuals in the real world in remote situations often stems from when they return home rather than issues on the ship. The ship has regulations that governs most aspects of their life, when at home it's a change they may not be used to and thats when the problems arise (usually in the form of substance abuse and violence) as for cross cultural issues little reaserch is available because theres not much in the way of true cross cultural interaction in the military.

I can see that . .

Life will continue while our characters are off exploring. It isn't like we can just take off to the home world every time there is a birth or a death.

It would probably be comparable to the age of exploration when wooden ships would take years to traverse the world.
