A ) How much of the surfice is covered with watter?

B ) What are the major land forms?

C ) What is local flora and fauna like? any exotic/ interesting speices?

D ) What are the major natural resoarces?

E ) are there any intelegent life forms on the planet other than the one that has allready been mentioned?

F ) Anything else you want to add.

How's this for A and B? If we like, I can make it bigger, and MUCH better.

Varaan, where'd you get the map? Can we blow up some of the sections to see them better? Perhaps name the areas and put some geography in there?

That would make it a lot easier to SIM, if people could refer to the map to say "We're deploying So-And-So to XYZ location for ____ diplomatic meetings." :)

I got it from Shane Johnson's semi-yet-not-really-cannon book "The Worlds of the Federation" published by Pocket Books in 1989. It is supposedly Gamma Trianguli VI (The TOS episode "The Apple" with the people worshiping Vaal). I just randomly picked one of the maps in the book. There is one for each world (64 of them), and I just flipped open the book to that world.

Sure, I can make it larger, coloured, labeled, etc. Just let me know what exactly you want done.

If you can start by getting a bigger pic, we can have on or two people work on creating some location names and geography, once we have a more definite species profile.

I think Varaan's map looks great. Looks like a foundation for the planet, especially once a little color and labelling's been added. If you need help, Varaan, I'd be glad to. I'm fine with 2D graphics/animation, but my abilites in 3D are none existant. But you need any help, just ask

I made a bigger and colourized version of the map and emailed it to Wolfie. Admiral, did you get it yet?

I didn't label anything yet...I thought we could collaborate on that stuff together.

Guess you're waiting for me to post this? :)

I think the next task is to name the continents, then states, then regions and cities. We'll also want to define some weather and land-type characteristics of certain areas (i.e.- desert, jungle, moderate, etc.).

Land stuff should be easy enough. I'll just dump the map into the Civ map creator and get it to randomize the terrain.

I'm not really using one... I'm kinda cheating. Civilization II has a map editor. I loaded a totally land map to get my terrain, now I'm putting in oceans. :)

What's even cooler is that I can load the game with 7 civs, then set it in cheat mode to no human player and let the AI figure out for me where all the borders of the states in the game are going to be. ;)

I just come back in about 4000 years or so and its all good like that.

Idril, is there any way to use the map that we already provided? :)

Not directly. What I did was draw the map into the civilization map editor and let it randomize the terrain with, of course, the same coastlines. I then told it "Here, use this map with 5 civilizations and no human player." I then set a can-opener down on the 'enter' key and came back in 2 hours. ;)

As of 1970AD, one civilization got destroyed. Another is huge. There are two medium sized civilizations. One of those has a vassal state as a buffer between it and the huge country. However, it probably doesn't need the buffer since its also the most scientifically advanced of all of them.

I'm going to run it 'til 2000 and then call it. At this point, though, there isn't going to be much change unless someone breaks out with nukes.

You guys figure out names for the civilizations and cities and we'll be all good. :)

Ok, simulation has been run with 5 factions and we have the results! I'll be writing up the results and sending historical maps to Admiral Wolf for posting.

Suffice to say we have a planet with three factions, two of which are aligned against a superior third. Anyway, I'll have them out soon.
