Cadet Resources

Besides what you've found elsewhere in this area, there are also other resources which you might find helpful in your time as a cadet, and an ensign. What's listed below are links to other areas on our website, and on the internet, which we believe are useful for new members of our group.

Yahoo! Registration Tutorial

If you're not registered for Yahoo! yet, you need to do so immediately. While it's not required (you can be subscribed to one of our Yahoo! Groups lists without being a Yahoo! member), you will find it much easier to manage your e-mail lists if you're signed up. We have an easy tutorial that will walk you through the process.

Forums & Chat

After you've registered for Yahoo!, you should now register for our forums. You'll have access to our Academy forums, where you can meet other cadets and ask questions about training. You'll also find our chat panel, which will allow you to talk to others in the fleet right through your web-browser, as long as you have Java installed! We think you'll find the area a great resource and a friendly place to take part in our community.

Here are some notable areas you'll want to visit:

  • The Academy area: This area caters to new members, and members in training. You can chat with other cadets and get your questions answered by experienced members.
  • Meet The Lemmings: Introduce yourself here to other board members.
  • Writing Challenges: Once you've begun training, you can participate in our bi-monthly writing challenge.

118Wiki, Our Collaborative Workspace

"Wiki" means "fast" in Hawaiian, and a Wiki is a place where everyone who visits can take part by editing pages in the website. UFOP: StarBase 118 has a Wiki called "118Wiki" where we work on some of our projects in a collaborative and open manner. You'll find that we also keep our articles on Star Trek Treknology here, so that they can be continually updated whenever new information is seen on a show. It takes just a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the interface, and then you'll be able to edit any page!

Here are some notable areas you'll want to visit:

  • Academy Library: This is a huge resource of Star Trek and StarBase 118 material to draw on, from a medical conditions database to galaxy maps to a list of intelligent species, and even a complete roster of courses your character can take at the Academy!
  • StarBase 118 Fleet: Learn more about all of the vessels, past and present, in our fleet.
  • Wiki Intro: Ready to start editing the wiki? Read the Wiki Intro, a quick, easy, and painless introduction to this Wiki.

UFOP Personnel Database System

UFOP uses an online database to organize the bios that people create for their characters. This system also automatically creates our Crew Rosters for each ship, harvesting the information directly from the bios. Don't worry about the logistics, just know that this is a central source of information if you're looking to find out more about other characters in our group.

  • If you have received an e-mail which included your Username/Password for the UPDS, then you can head to the log in area and sign in. Once there, you'll want to update your profile with all your character information.

  • If you have not received an e-mail with your Username/Password for the UPDS, then you likely have not finished training yet. We do not issue UPDS Usernames/Passwords until a cadet has finished training. In this case, head for the "Guest Entrance" of the UPDS to take a look around. You can also read the UPDS Manual.

The Advertising and Publicity Team

Our group stays alive by the willpower and dedication of enthusiastic members like yourself. We are constantly looking for new people who will help with our publicity projects to bring new members into the fleet. If you like our group, and want to help bring others into the community, please head to the Publicity Team's homepage, to learn more about the project and how to get involved.

External Links

Here's a list of websites which we find useful for simming:

  • StarTrek.com: Of course, the most important site for Trek on the web.
  • Daystrom Institute Technical Library: This site houses a lot of good information on starships, and we often use it as a jumping-off point when creating ships.
  • Memory-Alpha: This is a Star Trek Wiki, which seeks to create a collaborative encyclopedia of knowledge.
