Academy 5th Year: The Cadet Cruise

In the fifth year at the Academy, all cadets are assigned to a cadet cruise. This year-long course puts the cadets in the thick of the action, by having them actually aboard a vessel and performing the functions they have learned in their past three years.

In our group, the "cadet cruise" is held aboard one of the massive holodecks aboard the base, In Character. These training SIMs are shorter than the missions you will experience once you're SIMming in the fleet, but are carefully designed to challenge each member of the training group. To your character, however, it will be a long, exciting change to finally be aboard a ship.

Below are listed some of the more common traning holo-simulations, which are frequently used to challenge teams of new recruits.

Leian
Your training vessel, the USS Centris, is now orbiting the planet Leian, a StarFleet Command joint venture with the Klingon Empire to create a Betazoid/Klingon colony which will test the limits of empathy and emotion. The colony is intended to initially house a population of 2,000 on this M-class planet, not entirely dissimilar from Earth. Your commanding officer explains during the mission briefing that four months ago, the first ship of 20 Betazoid colonists landed and constructed standard habitats and a few science labs. However, they soon contacted StarFleet requesting immediate assistance with a medical condition which seems to make their bodies unable to make use of water properly. All of the colonists are becoming seriously dehydrated, but no other symptoms exist.

A Klingon vessel is waiting in orbit nearby to drop their first load of colonists, turning a tense situation into a tumultuous one. Without further ado, your team beams down to the planet within walking distance of the temporary shelters. You are to resolve the situation with all due speed and save as many lives as you can.

Meze
Onboard the class VI StarFleet shuttle Meze on which you are travelling, en route to meet the USS Centris from StarBase 118, something has gone horribly wrong. What should be a routine journey has turned critical as the shuttle blunders into a magnetic rift, severely crippling all major systems. And life support is failing, to boot!

With few options, the shuttle's pilot heads for a nearby class N moon, Odjurn IV, where the shuttle crashlands. Your goal is simple, to Survive!

Prex
Your training vessel, the USS Centris, has been sent to the Caldonian science station Prex, in response to a distress signal which has been repeating for several days: "To anyone who can hear us, we are in need of assistance. Our souls are lost, but our work must be saved. Please respond. To anyone who can hear us..."

All attempts to hail the station have so far failed. As the USS Centris approaches the planet the science station is based on, it finds no signs of any vessels in the vicinity. What could have gone so horribly wrong? Your mission, to investigate and solve this mystery!

Shabtai
You find yourself on the the bridge of the Bajoran mercy vessel Shabtai. The USS Centris' crew has responded to a distress signal from the impulse-capable ship, which is en route to Noad III with nine plague victims, suffering from Orna's disease. Something's gone wrong, though -- the Bajoran bridge crew lie unconscious around the you and your comrades!

Your training group has been hastily drop-beamed onto the Shabtai by the USS Centris, which has continued onto Bajor Prime to collect other plauge victims and deliver them to the only hospital in this sector capable of dealing with Orna's disease. The virus is native to the Zibalia, and causes paralysis and death if not quickly treated. To make matters worse, the Shabtai's warp core and computers are failing around you! Fix the ship, save the crew, avoid contracting the plague yourself, and get the other victims to the hospital and you too can be heralded a hero, Cadet!

Durosa
After receiving an incomplete distress signal, your crew beams down to the planet Durosa to investigate. Violent ion storms prevent your ship from communicating or sweeping the area with sensors, so you and your crewmates are left to solve this problem on your own! As StarFleet officer's it's your duty to help those in danger, so a window in the ion storms gives you the chance to do your job.

After discovering an abandoned structure of a race of people who do not control this planet's system, you must try and solve this puzzle before time runs out for whoever sent that distress call!

Altaris
StarBase 22, a small, remote science outpost on the edge of Federation space sends out a subspace carrier to its nearest neighbor, Deep Space 2, every two weeks. Ten weeks ago was the last carrier received. The USS Reliant set out from DS2 eight week ago to investigate, and has not beeen heard from either.

Using the USS Centris, you and your crew must find the Reliant, save her crew, and then get to the bottom of the mysterious lack of communication from SB22. Falter, and dozens of lives may be lost. Fail, and your may lose your life as well!
