USS Independence
The Independence was commissioned in 2366 before the beginning of the Dominion war as a New Orleans class ship. One of the few ships to survive the war, the Independence under went a standard refit in 2379. Like her sister ships, the Nebula and Galaxy class vessels, this New Orleans class ship is the first planned refit to upgrade weapons, shields, and armor.
In mid-2383, the USS Independence was destroyed when it was rammed into the "Emporer's Fang," the lead Gorn vessel in the Gorn Conflict. This move, along with the aide of the USS Ursa Major, brought an end to the conflict. Soon after, a Prometheus class vessel in the final stages of construction was assigned to RAdml. Anassasi and was renamed the Independence-A.
The Independence name comes from a long line of warships, dating back to the mid-19th century. More famous than the early sailing vessels were the ships of the mid-20th century, notable for carrying the latest technological advances of the times.
The Independence’s motto, "A little Revolution is good every now and then," is representative of the ship’s captain and crew. Their unique backgrounds and talents add to this ship real energy and distinctive viewpoints. The Independence will reshape the galaxy’s view of Starfleet.
